DSI Tetra red zone/latency issue

So I got a used tetra.

In ableton its always in the redzone even if I turn my preamp down, or the volume knob on it. The sound get quieter, but there seems to be anomalies maybe. So I just limit it. Also there is a lot of latency issues when I record anything. The note being played on midi keyboard lags. Is this thing broken, or do I need a better sound card on my computer?

Try plugging in your headphones into its phones jack. There is no need to run a synth through a preamp. What sound card are you using?

Im using an onboard card its got like realtek audio with that directx or asio support. So youre saying I sound hook up the tetra in through the USB, then plug in a midi USB keyboard? Or would it be better to go through some midi interface. I'm having troubles hooking up midi in the first place unless its directly into the tetra then through the preamp. Maybe I should learn more about this kind of stuff.

Another problem with this tetra is that half of the presets don't even make a sound. I should reset it, and start programming it on my computer. Thanks.

I recommend that you buy an audio/midi interface. Integrated audio will always cause you problems. Also it just sounds bad. And yes, that latency issue is because of the Realtek driver which sucks. Also, you should read the synth's manual. Or you could just give the synth to me.

Which audio/midi interface would you recommend? I'm still putting it to good use even with the issues.

Man I heard my stuff through one of those skullcandy type earbuds, and it was horrible. Like no color, and the drum/bass sounds took up most of the spectrum. Thats why everyone is listening to that dubstep stuff cause they cant hear any mid/highs/harmonic details anyways.

Some of the presets might not make any sound since they may for be for the external audio input. What type of computer do you have? A desktop or a laptop?

yeah all the presets work fine through headphones after reseting global parameters, but everything is really sketchy when recording into laptop because of the soundcard.
