Great choice! I hope you get yours soon. I'm blown away by the sound and the endless possibilities that the Solaris presents. I have lots of gear that will be collecting dust for a long time!

2011 was pretty bad for me. I had to sell all my hardware and my mac died December 2010. I was out of work for 6 months! I'm finishing the year on a high though. I got a new mac mini server, studio one 2, reaktor 5 and reason 6 upgrade.

In 2012 I'll be getting new interface, new monitors and towards the end of the year I'll start a eurorack modular.

Sorry, but finishing a modular is an undefined concept.

I'm really excited about some pending purchases from other GS members in the works atm. After that, I will be saving for a pair of Sonics Anima SE + amp. Then my $40 abused M1 Mk2 Actives will probably be used for my decks only. I still want to get something heartier for listening as well, but I think the Animas will give me detail and clarity like I've not had before.

I have to replace my severely broken computer too. That has just been killing me. It's so bad to use, and warranty has been a hassle.

I'm working two jobs atm, so plan to use my part time money for hobbies, and full time money for bills/mortgage. I only had a dodgy job for most of 2011, so at least I can support my family now.

So much other interesting gear I would love to play with, but not sure if I will be able to afford more than what I've listed until 2013.

You're absolutely right.

What I meant was, I will fill the remaining space in my current cabinets (9-10 spaces in my MU system, and 38HP in my euro) and try not buy any new cabinets for a couple years.

My big purchases for this year are going to be a Voyager and a new Macbook Pro once the Ivybridge refresh hits.

Incidentally, anybody know if the Lunar Impact that Nova Musik sells has the exact same LED setup the Electric Blue does? They've got a great bundle, and I like the LI's look in the light, but when it comes to being in the dark, does any synth look sexier than the EB?

I'm probably also going to do another production course and more keyboard lessons time permitting.

in 2011:

- New computer for DAW
- Upgrade soundcard, RME fireface uc was my purchase
- Get a hardware synth: MAchindedrum uw
- A very good soft synth: Ace, and now DIVA

Now for 2012, The Machinedrum has been a nice experience but I still lust after a classic subtractive synth, analog or VA, But I am very undecided to get a nord lead 3 or build my own midi controller aka synth project, for my fav soft synth (diva).

I reallly didnt like the workflow using hardware, recording doesnt make me happy and all those cables neither.

But I still want a physical interface, I am torn between Livid Code or build my own controller using hale micro kits :(

Any advice or opinion on this is welcome.

Also for 2012:

-Max for live
-Books for learning max/msp
-Books on synth patching

Something like a Virus TI2 keyboard that's already built to play nice with computers, has a top notch build quality, very grabbable knobs and plenty of DAW templates out there on the web already to use as a MIDI controller might be something to look at.

Expand my modular into a capable 4 voice system (with the touch sequencer running things.) Probably about 2 grand away from this being a reality.

Master the Ensoniq ASR-10 and have that and the modular communicating nicely together.

Produce some tracks and videos.

No more synths.
Plenty of nice pre's.
Possibly a 500 series lunchbox
Some kind of 1176 clone.

Moved on from stuff that does stuff to stuff that makes stuff sound better

I only became a slut this year. I had some stuff already but only decided to got into actually recording this year. I decided to get serious and put together a studio, I was lucky with money so I bought a pile of synths, a mixer and about a zillion cables.

I'm only learning this stuff so I've been going slowly and haven't recorded much as yet, there's a lot to learn.

I've got a good collection of mainly analogue synths and I don't think I need any more. I also have no room.

Next year I don't plan to spend nearly as much and what I do buy will probably be (relatively) low cost. I'm after:

Evolver desktop.
A string machine.
I'll probably get into soft synths.

Maybes:
The virus desktop looks interesting, 2nd hand TI 1?
Something from MFB.

I have a modular (of sorts) on order so I could end up getting some extra modules.

Mainly I want to record more tracks, including:

A chiptune (with real old computers)
Something glitchy
Something that has a train type rhythm
etc...

i'm kinda happy i managed to control my synth buying habits this past year (i only got rme UFX and a new DAW machine) so i'm not sure - i'll probably get something in 2012, but wanna be careful not to increase time/money/willpower needed for maintaining vintage stuff, beyond what i already have. mostly bcs of constant hit'n'miss with synth techs arround these parts. in that context, it's much easier with monos than with polyphonics, one only has to work on one voice, no dac/memory/multiplexers/eeproms etc... just CV and GATE. beautiful. so this is the direction im probably continuing with. and sml modulars. even tho i had dreams of adding an xpander and/or jp4 to my polyphonic roster, i'm pretty much past it now. so, few things im thinking of more than others, but no decisions yet:

System101 (had a friend's unit for cpl of yrs, now i want mine..)
System102, if i find one
Vortex desktop or Dominion X. need to hear more from both.
modularizing one of my SEMs, adding noise, s/h and a 2040 filter
adding a transistor ladder to my Elektor Formant
hairball audio 1176, classicapi vr312di
Mytek ADC192 (to hookup to my UFX)
Shrutti with dbl SVF or 2044

i'm definitely getting:

iPad or iPad2 to control MBP live
Expert Sleeper's ES3 (yeah i said that last yr too , but seriously..)
building more absorbers in my mixroom, and a pair of diffusers
more HD space, and more.. and more.. need a total bkup system so..

he is a vintage synth&equipment dealer and refurbisher. and probably one of the best in the business. at least in this part of the world. many nice things come his way, often way under going prices.

so, if i'm an addict, he would be my dealer..

Opto-Key for the Mini
SEM (new one, of course)

For the rest I really don't have any wishes anymore other than getting rid of some of the crap that's been cluttering the place. Oh yeah, if they ever get to it, Live 9, 64-bit would be nice.

In 2011 I:

- purchased an Akai S700, Waldorf Pulse and a Oberheim Matrix 6
- didn't have Holidays

in 2012 I'm:

- going on a nice Holiday with my girlfriend
- going save up for an Eurorack Modular
- going to get an MPC-60 (hopefully) or
- going to sell the S700 for an S612/S900/S950

Well, I started 2011 as a total helpless gearslut by crowning my synth army with an Andromeda and a PEK.

Then I felt very depressed for being such a slut (just after getting a V-Synth XT), and swore around May I would not buy more gear for the rest of the year.

I failed immediately the next month and bought a third JM Lemur...

...BUT I have been able to control myself after that. I didn't even update my now in-Komplete (I was and probably still am pissed at NI re their komplete Ultimate joke, so no effort needed)

Another thing is that I haven't seen a truly exciting product lately. The Tempest is not as exciting as I thought it would be (personal impression, don't get mad ...

Probably I will just update my master computer in 2012. Still have tons to do/learn with what I already have...
W8 will be fun though...

I've decided on going for the upcoming GRP A4, a big purchase for me. And then i'll get the absolute opposite in size and price: a shruthi-1.

To explain:
I've been wandering what to get this year. I considered a lot of idea and combinations. I wanted a good, powerful vco based monosynth, in combination with something interesting.

I considered:

A voyager with vx 351 and cp-251 and a shruthi-1.
A voyager rme with a sem pro and a shruthi-1.
A macbeth vortex with a sem pro and a shruthi-1
Maybe a cwejman s1mk2 and a shruthi-1.
Or the esoteric helmtronic challenger in combination of one of the above (and a shruthi-1).

Notice that the shruthi-1 is the only constant in all of those options.
And then i stumbled upon the GRP A4 a few days ago - and since than i'm in love. In love up to the point i'm willing to sell my polyevolver to finance the remaining cash i need for it.
The specs of this synth and what it can do, how it sounds - and how it looks: i had an imidiate click.

I'm aware that this is the opposite of "gear slut phillosophy", but this little clip on the shruthi website made me consider this option:

Hell Yeah or No - by Derek Sivers - YouTube

The only downside of this GRP A4 is that it will start shipping only on june. Already ordered one, though.

2012...

BUY LIST:
the only certain thing is Axe-FX II.
I'm on the wait list for the discount...

I sold my Eventide H8kFW a couple of months
ago and the computer FX just aren't cutting it.

The H8000k editing/creation interface is great (?)
for engineers, not so much musicians. So unless
Eventide drop a massive bomb like an interface
similar to Axe Edit, I'm checking out the greener
grass to see if it's real or mirage.

The WANT list...
getting smaller. Solaris is on the radar as well as interactive live tools.

And the DREAM fantasy/lottery list...
Blue Claw (especially 296e)
Old World U33 (hanz and franz the acoustic drums for some PE breaks)
Atomic Squeezebox
Cranesong IBIS or Buzz REQ 2.2

BUT REALLY, I'd rather buy a ticket out of the US and into Argentina/Chile/Paraguay.
The southern hemisphere is looking rather attractive ATM. Maybe it's the snow.
Or the barbwire facing inwards, for your protection.
