Good idea to sell my 777?

Have a mint, boxed 777, bought it new, but it has been resting in it's package under my bed for over 2 years tutt
It was my first analog synth/monosynth, and I'll never find one in the same condition, but I could use the money, as I'm getting into photography... And that gear makes music gear seem cheap....

Thoughts.....
Anyone here sell theirs and regret it?

I attached my fave 777 snippits, that I don't think any other synth could reproduce.. but then I'm not really doing hard styles like that anymore..Not sure if it fits in with my music direction anymore.

If you aren't using it, how could you possibly regret selling it?

Well it has some sentimental value.
To clarify, I moved and left all my studio gear behind 2 yrs ago..
Now I'm back.. but have used my limited space to mostly accommodate my newer gear; juno 60, se1x, fx and and 2 hardware seqs..

If I had the space I'd definitely unpack the 777 as well as a bunch of other synths/fx units that are boxed up.. Just don't know if I'd use it much. It was kind of a special occasion unit, mostly used on remixes/mindless noodling endeavors.

2 years??? If I havent used something in few months I consider ditching it...

You can always buy another. However, selling it for photo gear is still >_<

As with other desirable synths that aren't being made any more if you decide to get another one in the future you'll probably have to pay more for it...

Sounds like we can't really help with that decision.
But if it were me and I needed space, I'd sell the se1x and keep the 777.

With an economic system collapse on the horizon I don't think this will remain the case... although.. ya maybe the bartering value will increase.

The se1x has actually become my workhorse mono, gets used on every tune..
Think i'll sleep on it.. literally

Thanks for the replies!

Keep in mind that there was a limited manufacturing run of only seven hundred and seventy-seven FR-777's. On top of that they are arguably one of the best mono synths ever. Regardless of the economic situation, this will always be a rare and sought after instrument.

As for me, I sold mine. This is one of the rare times when you can easily get more for a piece than you initially paid. The 777 is an exceptional synth. The sequencer is excellent and the synth itself is outstanding and somewhat of a cross between the TB-303 that is its base inspiration and a Pro One, yet I feel that it far exceeds them both.

I really liked it but I wouldn't say that I miss it. Sure, having another (along with another XBase09 that I used to have paired with it) would be nice, but it just wasn't really a good fit for what I needed.

I eventually replaced mine with a DSI Evolver (which I love and will never part with). Yours obviously isn't something you think a necessity and it sounds like you could put the money from its sale to better use, I say sell it. Down the road you may come to miss it, but not all relationships are meant to last.

Agree 95%

I always thought of the 777 as a cross between the 303, 202 and Pro-One.

I mainly used it for tight classy plinks, clanks and plonks (just like how I used my 202). Always found it strange that it got labeled the other 303.. but maybe it was just a matter of taste and I just never bothered to program it for that. ( I got into dance music around 96. rezzy acid sounds were not "in" at the time )

I don't exactly miss it.. just like my old Elektron gear.. it was very inspiring and made me get more out of my other/future gear. No regrets.

The only thing I can say that bothered me about it was.. it seemed like it really need some sort of limiter on it always... many live tweeks would really make the amplitude jump.. up or down.

as for the missing 5%
I hate the Evolver. I feel like a broken record saying that... but at the time when I was using the Evolver.. it was to replace the 777 we had... and the Pro-One. Didn't cut it.

The last thing I'll say is that the 777 will definitely hold its value much better than any photography equipment you buy.

That's true, although if I went with vintage analog photo gear things may be more level on that front..

...Some great replies there, thanks for sharing your experiences.

Think I'll put off selling it until I have the space to set all my gear up in one place... then if I find I'm not using it, I'll let it go, as it's bad to not be using such a beast..
It reminds me of racing cars that are locked up in museums and never get to see any more race action.. sinful

Well I sold my beloved 777 a few months ago.... it was a beautiful machine, but I'm glad it's gone to someone who will use it more than I did, it's actually triggered me into selling a bunch of other music gear that was just being collected, glad I'm out of that trap
