Any software vocoders that sound better than the roland SVC 350?

I never used Software vocoders. And now that I´ve moved and have room for less, I am thinking of selling the SVC.

Love it, but if I dont have the room for it..

Anyway.. any software that can make a similar sound?

I have an SVC-350 and this one is a pretty good simulation:

+1 - This is a great sounding software vocoder once you get it tweaked right. Still won't quite get the clarity and bite of a real hardware vocoder, but does a respectable job.

Vocovee is another decent one: Software - Vocovee1.05 | g200kg Music & Software

Vocoders are basically a whole bunch of band pass filters, so you have to be happy with the sound software filters vs analog ones

Can't say I've heard any software vocoders that have the grit and character of the analog ones

image-line vocodex is quite neat because of its amount of parameters and being able to change the amount of bands

Although software vocoders do sound fine I always find them to fiddly to work with.
You'll always have some latency when you want to use them real time...

And real time is the way for me...never got any good results playing over a previously recorded vocal part...

I do agree about the live part. so nice to plugin a mic and just go bonanza. :-)

So what is a SVC 350 worth today? What are they selling for? Anyone know?

you can expect to pay US$1,500 for one, I'm pretty sure of that.

There's one for sale at GS classifieds right now for 900 euro.

uhhh what? that's wayy too high. I paid like $800 something for mine just a few months ago. they regularly pop up for like $1000ish though, but if you're patient you can definitely still get one for less than that.

Oops, my bad, I totally confused the SVC-350 with the VP-330 ... yes, less than $1,000 should be fair for the 350, the 330 surely goes for what I originally posted or more.

@Radiance/perx

I noticed you guys both lamented latency when using a computer, there are tons of members here that can help you be rid of that!

Latency is soooo 2007!

Well, my G5 is from 2004...but you're right.
It should not be much, even on my G5.
It's just that I never bothered to try software vocoders after buying a SVC 350.

So basically my opinion was tipical GS: defending your own gear without thoroughly trying the other options LOL

The SVC 350 is just a great vocoder.

thanks everyone for the feedback. Im not sure what to do really. I love this vocoder, even though I probably have not used it in 2 or so years now. And now I relocated and dont even have direct access to it. So thinking of selling it. But its one of those few classics that you just do not want to let go. ;-)
