If you like their offerings, great, otherwise you'll HAVE to go vintage (if you still want analog). But don't dwell on the repair issue, as long as it makes the best sounds, to YOU. Quote:

Congratulations JKantos on finishing school and good luck on your career in music! The kind of music you want to compose is not something I would associate with warm, lush chord pads as much as I would glitchy electro sound effects and atonal polyrhythms. When I studied the early electronic music composers like Babbitt and Subotnik, most were using classic, huge modular synths like the Arp 2600 and multi-tracking them. You might want to consider splitting up your funds and start investing in good modular analog gear for the glitchy Babbitt stuff, while getting your lush pads from less-expensive soft-synths, or multi-tracking your analog gear. (Lush pads are so conventional - and much easier to find than good glitchy toys!) Happy Silver Apples! |

| Lives for gear | Unless you're doing simpler Deadmau5 / Wolfgang Gartner type of stuff which can benefit from analog synths

So you want a hardware poly synth and you're big on 80's.. If you don't get your hands on a Juno 6/60 or 106 you won't be as happy. Also eBay isn't that bad. Lots of great deals are had there.. You just need to be reasonably smart about it.

Dude I was in the same dilemma you were about 4 months ago. I ended up buying a Prophet 08 pe keys (new) Slim phatty (new) and a used mono evolver keys. spent around 3300 in total. I could pass on the sound of the evolver a bit for some reason, might have a different opinion if I had the poly. THE PROPHET 08 AND SLIM PHATTY COMPLIMENT EACHOTHER SO GOOOD AGHHGH (for what im doing) I really like glitchy electro house like you mentioned, then I also like nu- wave 80's type stuff like kavinsky, or sebastian tellier or empire of the sun. The prophet 08 has a nice new modern tone with the capability of doing some pretty wild 80's sounding stuff...then the Moog is good for ripping bass and leads that tear the audio spectrum apart (no one bother saying it sounds "flat" or "boring", it's a capable little good deal) I would also consider a DSI mopho. It sounds like you and I have a few things in common, PM me if you want to chat. | |

I have a little phatty and love it. If you want to spice things up then buy some moogerfoogers and a control CV for out of this world tweaking of the little phatty.

there's a ppg wave 2.2 for sale in PDX. Slightly over your budget but one of the most incredible sounding synths on the planet!!! http://losangeles.***************/ws...645970073.html |
