Thread Starter | Recommend me a synth tech in MD/VA please!
I came across an old Yamaha SY-2 in non-working condition, so I'm looking for a tech for some fixer-upper work. Anyone able to recommend me a tech in the mid-atlantic region? Anywhere from Richmond to Philly would be ideal. I don't want to ship this thing, its deceptively heavy... Thanks in advance!

1. Eric Falkenhan's Audio-Visual Service is amazing. 3401 Chestnut Avenue Baltimore, MD 21211-2517 (410) 467-3620 Eric used to be an electrical engineer at Westinghouse, so he really knows what he's doing. He is probably the foremost authority in Maryland on synthesizers and generally any analog music technology. 2. Karl Ekdahl of Knas music (producer of the Moisturizer and the Quad Massager) is also a really awesome and knowledgeable guy. But his time to do repairs is limited because he is mostly focused on building effects and custom synths. 3544 Hickory Ave. Baltimore, MD 21211 (410) 235-4500 3. Finally, Atomic Music in Beltsville can do repairs, but they tend to stick to simple stuff, like routine cleanings or installing new jacks. 10111A Bacon Drive, Suite A Beltsville, MD 20705 (301) 595-4190

You can also try calling Washington Music Center in Wheaton, MD. They have been around for 40 years and probably could make some good suggestions if they have no one there. They have a pro sound department and a synths department (among many others), so between the two someone's bound to have a Rolodex.

Yeah, I know Chucks. They'd probably recommend ProTech (the repair shop that used to be right down the street, but they recently moved to a new location in Silver Spring), which is a fine repair shop that I've used before. But for this job, I'd really prefer a tech who specializes in vintage synths. Nevertheless, thanks! I just got off the phone not too long ago with Eric Falkenhan, who has agreed to have a look at it. But he won't be available until the 24th. Wish me luck! |

| Analog synth repair on the east coast (preferably PA/VA/MD/DC)
I'm now in the possession of a non-functioning Prophet T8. Though I know of several West coast technicians who could repair it, I am unfortunately in the Baltimore area and shipping costs would be prohibitively expensive (probably $500 round trip, minimum.) Does anyone know of freelance technicians on the East coast, preferably in the Northeast corridor?

Thread Starter | Recommend me a synth tech in MD/VA please! Eric Falkenhan has had my SY-2 since September, so I don't know if I'd 'recommend' him, but he's there... When I was there last, he had a Prophet 600, a PolySix, an ESQ-1, and a few other synths in for repair. From the looks of things, he does a LOT more vintage phonos, amps, and guitar amps than synths. |

I highly recommend The Analog Lab in NYC. They brought my Pro One back to life for a fair price.

P.S. I know they recently worked on a P600 as well as P10.
