man my virus is giving me the sh*ts

WTF!

Im running logic 8, seriously its getting annoying.

Basically it's a latency issue. I don't know whats going on but it SHOULDN'T be happening. My computer is powerful enough, before I got the virus, I would be producing songs with 50+ channels, no issues.

I get the Virus, and the thing is so bloody buggy it seems. So I lay down one sound ok, even doing this sometimes, it seems as if there is a communication issue between my host and the synth, where I'll press a key and there is a massive buffer between me pressing the key and hearing a sound. Sometimes it's not an issue. But almost always, if I lay down a sound, and then I go into the virus to select one of its separate channels, just to program another sound and audition it before I record what I've done initially. This is when the main issue comes in. I will lay down some midi information the virus is playing a melody for example, then I select another virus channel, just to program a new sound and audition it and BUFFER. There is a massive latency happening in this situation, even in really simple projects that I'm just starting. Then sometimes it'll just crash, which I know happens from time to time, but not this frequently surely. Another thing is I'm not using a gigantic number of voices or polyphony either.

WTF?

Is anyone else having the same problem, is there a fix? Sorry for my rant, but when your trying to be creative and work solidly without interruption or hiccups and this shit keeps happening it really gets to you.

Thanks for your help

I was about to sell my Virus due to similar stuff happening on my Cubase rig (Win 7). Do yourself a favor*– unplug the USB stuff and say bye bye to the whole „total disintegration" bs. I am serious*– I know its not that cool having to browse the stuff by hand and dealing with midi, but paradoxically my life is sooo easier now. Just try it. And it will encourage You to twist those knobs instead of browsing the endless presets

I dont use the presets because their mostly shit. I'm programming it myself. I like to use the onboard software to program my sounds because at the end of the day it's faster. I use the knobs when I've mostly finished drawing up the sound I'm looking for, thus to tweek it further and for automation.

I'd like to see Access make the editor standalone without integration. I doubt they will but, would be a more simpler solution.

Are you trying to record audio through USB?
I've heard that can cause latency. I don't have a Virus, just something I've heard from friends that do.

I love hardware, especially the virus, but its little things like this that caused me to switch to plugins. So much easier without cables, latency or other BS.

I use it through usb to start with, to program various sounds, just for a method of working faster really, when I'm happy with what I've got I will record it through a Prism Sound Orpheous.

Its the part where I'm programming multiple sounds that shits me.

Mine works flawlessly?

Have you got it on a separate PCI card as some people have issues using the mobo USB.

Also in Cubase they say not to use the VST plug but the standard one. Not sure if it's the same for Logic though?

Anyway hope that helps.

Skip the plugin and go directly from the audio outs. It's gotta a cracking D/A converters that spec better then audio through it's USB. Also, the multi options smoke the vst multiple channels options.

@studiomood

Just a suggestion. What you can do is to program your sounds with the Virus Control plugin and save them patches in Rom banks. Then remove the VC plugin.

Setup a Midi multichannel and use the External Instrument "plugin" in Logic like the example below:

Please Give me some answers on this piece of junk. - Problems and trouble shooting help - Access Music User Forum

Use MULTI mode to recall your patches etc.

Currently trying this setup and seems to work much better.

Cheers

Is it just Logic and or Macs that have this issue because, as I said before , mine is fine on Cubase PC.

I just checked with a friend and his is good on the same?

I'll buy your Virus if you are unhappy with it.

Check the Access forums and download the "Virus tutorial song" for Logic. Save that as a Logic template and use that when you produce with the Virus. See if you still have problems after that.

I am using a Ti2 (keyboard) on a PC under Live and have no problems of any sort, especially with latency.

Perhaps it is more of a Logic issue?
