thinking of switching to ableton Live for mostly audio recording

Am I out of my mind? I have never used ableton before but the way I write music is in sections and grooves then layer melodies over the grooves in a simple 4-8 bar sections then piece them together. Id love to have a program that i can record stuff like that on the fly and be able to use LIVE's features and functions.

My setup is 3 synths, 2 drum machines and an 11 rack all going into a digi002 into protools. Can i seamlessly record audio into live? Im using PT and recording audio is a breeze but I dont like the worlflow and Im in a rut now because of that.

What is editing audio like in live? PT's makes editing simple and easy, Id like it if Live was like this too.

I already used the search and didnt really find any questions/answers about audio recording in live.

As someone who uses pro tools for mixing/post and Live for sound design and arranging, I can say that Live's advantages outweigh its disadvantages for my workflow. I do sometimes wish Live had some more traditional-DAW editing features, but what it does do it does extremely well, to the point where I don't miss pro tools for the aforementioned tasks. My one gripe is that it could use a nicer audio engine, but unless you're going for the clean pristine Logic-like sheen, Live will probably do everything you want it to.

Edit: If you really want to know, read the manual, or better yet download the demo and give it a go :D

I use Live for audio recording.

Sometimes I'll just set up a drum loop and jam on guitar and bass for 15-20 minutes, edit out the dead air and create an arrangement from the loops. It's a lot easier to do in Live than any other DAW out there.

I just totally can't get the hang of recording in Ableton. I really want to, but I just write in Cubase and I'm going to use Live with the APC40 to trigger stuff live. For the people that can grasp writing in that kind of workflow, I commend you.

this block mooving rough resolution single track work is not really audio editing.. you cant even repair waveforms with a pencil tool.
I think that was introduces with a sample edit program called alchemy in 1984 and is since a standard feature of audio editing..one you use with protools all the time.. but with life you suddenly dont need it because something in the audio engine is supressing the cicks ... with a trade of in sound quality of cause.

And sample precise allignments..a nightmare in live because the so called ableton units are rather decoration than givin any valuable information..but at least during the last beta versions of L8 the got stable.. before the varried with zoom resolution.

And you cant lock events along the timeline..

check out protools or wave lab and alike than you see what audio editing actually is supposed to be able to do.
