Thread Starter | Senheiser vs. Audio Technica
I'm looking for a good pair of studio headphones and have read many reviews on here who suggest the Senheiser HD25. However, all the guys in the audio store swear by the Audio-Technica ATH-M50 headphones though and suggested I get those instead. Does anyone own a pair of the audio technica headphones? Which is better? The Sennies are about $100 more as well.. Personally I need something with flat response obviously, but also something with a decent bass/low end because I want to be able to shape my low end on these, as my studio is very small, and I always have a difficult time with the low end |

I got the AT cans and they make you hear even the lowest frequencies of kickdrums and the lot. Both headphones you mention are closed (good for recording) but some people don't like closed phones for mixing (I guess you educated yourself about the difficulties of mixing with headphones...) The Sennheisers are LOUD, but don't go that low. If I had to choose between these two, the AT would get the vote. Prepare to check your work on a few other systems, in the car, and so on. That said, good headphones to check the low end (have a few records of the same genre you're in handy for preparing to get into the ballpark) are way better than guessing the bass in small and not-that-perfectly-treated rooms.

well im going to throw in a spanner and say i just bought beyerdynamic dt770 pro's and i absolutely love them! ive owned hd25s and the beyers are much better imo. especially for bass (i make electro/dnb/techno btw) someone who has listened to the audio-techs might say different so dont take my word for gospel. |
