Thread Starter | Production in Mono or Stereo (Headphones)
I'm finding myself getting much better mixes when I produce with my HDJ2000s over my bloated bottom end of my HD280 Pros or my Logitech computer speakers and with the option of Mono/Stereo, which one should I be LISTENING to my productions in... I've heard a bit about doing production while listening in Mono then listening to it in Stereo and all that jazz.... Just looking for some more insight to this... and no telling me to buy monitors... I can't really produce at high volume levels unless I'm running headphones... gotta do what I can I suppose! Thanks guys!!

Even at low volumes monitors are better than headphones for mixing. Actually you shouldn't mix loud (all the time) anyway. Maybe have a look at the Focusrite VRM stuff as a compromise. Mixing in mono can help with phase issues and volume relationships between your instruments, you need to check your final mix in mono anyways to see if any stereo effects are getting lost, ie: if it works in mono it will always work in stereo but not the other way round. Generally its wise to keep anything below 150-200hz in mono for club music. .

Monitors are something pretty far ahead in my future, my style and level of writing just doesn't have enough reach or appeal for me to justify it since at the moment I produce pieces to please mostly myself, hopefully one day I can get some decent ones |

Well even your logitec speakers will do, or a home stereo. Its just to get the proper stereo placements, then switch back to your phones. . |
