korg sv1 sustain pedal question/issue

I just got a new sv-1 and I am having a problem with not getting any sound when the sustain pedal is plugged in on power up. I have to unplug the pedal before powering up and then plug back in to get sound to work.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this behavior? I am hoping it is a simple mistake that I am making. I have it plugged into the pedal 1 jack.

Sustain pedals go in the "damper" jack.

I actually have in the damper jack not pedal 1. Still having the issue. Tried a different pedal, didn't help. Switching power on and off with the pedal pressed initiated sound the last time. I guess my next thing to try will be a factory reset and maybe firmware update. If that doesn't fix it I am going to have to return it. Kind of a drag.

Do you have a pedal with switchable polarity like a Boss FS-5U? It is quite possible you have the wrong polarity - although this usually results in the damper behaving in the opposite manner, not completely killing the sound. Worth a try though.

No switch on the pedal. That was the first thing I looked for.

Well unless it's a Korg pedal you need to try another one to be sure or get handy with a soldering iron.

Thanks for your help. Tried factory reset, updated os, two different korg pedals. no luck. sending it back. bummer. I am wondering if I should look for another keyboard option. It seems like these have more issues than most keyboards.
