Thread Starter | First time in New York , Any must see Electronic Music stuff?
Hello GS, Im going to be in New York for the next week starting tomorrow & was wondering if there were any must-see music shops or venues as far as Electronic Music is concerned. I'm curious if theres anything in NY like Analog Haven from So Cal or Robot Speak in Nor Cal. Also if anyone knows of any clubs that an Electronic music lover might have some fun at in NY, Id love to know. Thanks for your time in advance. Very exited to finally visit the big city :-) |

there's not much left in terms of stores. Rogue Music in the city, and Main Drag in williamsburg brooklyn. Electronic music is a pretty catch all phrase in terms of seeing music...anything more specific you're looking for? |

Thanks for your reply. As far as specifics, I love house music and Im always up for anything experimental. In San Francisco there's a bit of a tech-house scene (hope I don't get flammed for using that term), so id love anything along those lines. I suppose what I should of asked is: Are there any Electro music scenes in NY that are unique to NY? Other than that I'm up for anything new & was curious if any slutz had any favorite places they wanted to share. Thanks again tstu102!

This my be a little off topic, but when you are in NYC go see the Blue Men Group! I went there several times and it was always a blast. If you have time the head over to New Jersey, there is this:

Im actually leaving New Jersey right now & it is HOT!!! Google is telling me that NY is even hotter! record breaking heat. Ill take your advice on looking into Blue man group, I saw them years ago when I was younger, before I knew anything about audio engineering or production, im sure seeing them now would be a very different (and fun) experience. Thanks for the input, always appreciated:-)

See La Monte Young's "Dream House"! Once in a lifetime experience that will change your perception of the physical nature of sound in space. Other then that, for stores I second Main Drag and Rogue. In terms of parties, cruise the listservs to learn about Bushwick and Williamsburg raves, parties, and box socials. There is the meatpacking mega-club scene if you are into that sort of thing. (I don't judge) |

I used to live in SF too..then moved to NYC after (now temp back in socal for the mean time). Yeah, east coast and NY is HOT for us spoiled Cali folk, lol. West coast is so perfect in weather it is sometimes ridiculous and spoils you, haha. Especially coming from SF, where it is soo nice, brisk and cool year round, it can be way too hot in nyc in the summer; "dog breath" hot in the subway stations. But, the way I saw it, the heat is just a minor minor con and totally worth it to be in such a kick butt city ![]() Music scenes unique and quintessential to NY? If you like deep house, then it's the place to be...lots and lots of dope east coast and NY djs that play classics and underground house music that almost never gets played in SF or LA venues (or at least very rarely). East coast style house I notice is very rare in SF and LA. Santos party house, Water Taxi Beach, APT lounge, Mr. Saturday Night undergrounds in Bk and Sunday daytime party (used to be called sundays best) at gowanus canal, random boat parties, Wednesday at Cielo Louie Vega (fri/sat at cielo is upscale/table service/mainstream crowd if you want to avoid that), Sullivan Room, Pier Street outdoor venue..... theres another thread where to party in NYC that lists lots of info.. search it Wishing I was there right now |

What about quintessential food you can't get anywhere else? Gotta try the chicken & lamb on rice on 53 & 6th (8pm-4am has the best cooks), Artichoke Pizza, DiFara pizza, Katz deli, Momofuku.....

Well, there's a rave thingy on Friday. Or, if you're willing to spend a little more $$, there's a Bag Raiders + Ellie Goulding concert at Terminal 5 but you'd have to find tickets on Craigslist and I don't know how much of a party it'd be. The rave: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=130172143731380 I'll probably go to the rave so let me know if you go |

NYC ravers is a solid group of people, they keep it pretty authentic in this time of top 40 bullshit. You're doing yourself a disservice if you don't at least stop by the big Sam Ash and Manny's on 48th st. Avoid the 14th street guitar center like the plague | |
