Supernova 2 - forgot how good it sounds

We are writing some new dance tunes at the moment and we powered up the supernova for the first time in a year or two, really nailed some dance sound we needed - I'd forgotten what a synth it is. Anybody feeling the love for the Supernova 2

I have a Supernova II Pro in the rack beside me. I have never understood some of the harsh criticisms some have of it here. It's a surprisingly versatile device, even in the face of the rest of my synth collection, analog and otherwise.

A superb synth. I think there's a lot of snobbery about these things - if it's accessible and affordable you musn't admit it's any good.

I still have my original Supernova mk 1 ! - even tho I sold many classic mono synths. There are still some great things these machines can do. - I had a classic example of this a few years back:

I'd powered down my Mac and so my AMT8 MIDI patch bays gone into their own auto mode linking random outboard synths in my rig to my master controller keyboard. I accidently hit one of the keys and this HUGE aggressive blast of awesome sound blew out from the speakers... In awe I went over to my Xpander to see what patch was up .... it wasn't the Xpander, nor was it the Andromeda, nor was it my Memorymoog..... it was the Supernova !

Great machines !

Have the mk2 rack & absolutely love the thing!

Anybody know why novation choose to ditch the S/PDIF/ADAT board out of interest?

I have the super bass station too & plan to pick up a drumstation to complete the set...great performance for silly money imo

I recently sold my Supernova but agree it is a brilliant synth, almost faultless in fact.

The only reason I sold it is because I couldn't justify having a Virus, Nord G1 and Supernova at the same time. The Virus is my undisputed favourite digital synth and the G1 has potential to be something very special (if I put the hours in) while the Supernova was merely a brilliant synth, but without that extra special something which made me want to keep it ahead of the Nord or Virus.

Still, I'd class it as a quality high-end VA along with those first-gen Viruses and Nords...and above mid-range VA's like AN1X & MS2000.

Supernova bass:

screaming lead:

floating hi-hatesque persussive hits:

typical minimal-tek line:

The Supernova II I expect would offer very much the same, with the usual little upgrades here and there.

A highly-recommended synth...superior than the mid-range Novations (KS, X, K, A, Nova).

Superior than the Ultranova? To my ears the Ultranova demos sound like the Microkorg: easily-pleased shiny sounds...lacking depth or character. But probably not fair of me to judge the Ultranova thus until I actually play it myself.

I purchased my Supernova II right before they announced that they would not produce the Adat card. I was so angry at the time. If they had produced it, it would have been epic! Oh well, I still think it's an amazing synth.

I love my Supernova II, think it's a really amazing VA.

However, I am going to sell it, only because I will get a nice amount for it and it's not a Pro X version, which I rather have.
I also have a nice collection of VA synths, including a Novation A-Station (which doesn't fetch a high price...), which made me felt it could be a good idea to sell it.

But if I ever find a Pro X version for a nice price, I will buy it without hesitation, cause it's definitely a really nice synth.
