Thread Starter | prophet 5 midi out - what is it for?
Does anybody know what the midi out from the original sequential circuits midi mod is for? It doesn't transmit cc's and as far as I know doesn't dump patches... anyone have any idea?

You serious? It sends out note on / note off information (when you play the keyboard) and program changes... That's about all. |

ha ha! blind... My prophet has had it's keyboard cutoff and I keep forgetting that they actually came with keyboards... I can't believe I didn't think of that... |

Prophet 5 without a keyboard? I doubt it.

Thread Starter | there it is... One of the previous owners must have decided it was easier to move around without the keyboard and away it went...

I like it. That's the way they all should be. I think it's worthy of a thread by itself with more pictures, whenever the spirit moves you... |

I've seen some horrible things done to synths.. thats one of them. I had an Arp Oddy Mk3 that someone had scratched their favourite settings into the front face.. I can't imagine what was going through their head... "Nah, I won't use a pencil, I'll scribe it with this sharp bit of metal!" (Then again, the Arp was prob worthless at the time) It's a pity, with a bit of effort, that P5 could be bought back to full spec. I got my Minimoog just like that.. only the knob section.. nothing else. I did spend a fair bit of time and love getting it back up to speed. Now it sports MIDI in & out, and a bunch of fancy things. & it looks like this. |

Mod depth is on a little knob added to the left of the synth... I looked into getting it redone but it was lotsa $ and not really worth the effort... I would rather just use it as is (which is how I would use it if it had a keyboard) and make some music...

Maybe you could chop the keyboards off the MS20's as you may not be using them either... might save you even more extra space.. (I know you were not responsible for the P5) I get what you are saying about making music.. but it just makes me sad to see a P5 like that. I'd feel the same if I saw a great classic car that someone had cut the roof off with an angle grinder.. Sadness. |

People have been modifying their instruments forever and in whatever ways best suits them. I'll take a functional instrument that I can make music with over some museum piece that doesn't work for me any day. -andrews

Factory v3.3 Prophet-5 Sysex is non-compliant. Standard sysex recorders cannot record it. The only thing it is good for is swapping patches with another P5.
