Thread Starter | My 1st serious mix (in progress) anyone kind enough to do a quick analysis please?
As I said, its the 1st time ive tried mixing my own stuff seriously, i.e researching techniques, experiementing and implementing them. My favourite one so far is the pensado technique with the 2 reverb auxes panned L&R which ive put on the lead sound on the hook and it really opened it right out. Just hoping to get a few pointers on what I could do better, what I have done right and to get some fresh ears listening would be good ![]() Im going for the pop/dance/electro type thing, mixing the vocals in a seprate session so to save cpu so this is just instrumental. From my analysis I have to sort the kick out, im having a bit of trouble with it but who doesnt have trouble with bloomin kicks!? Snare and hats are just a couple of percussion loops I threw in there when tracking just to get a feel but I kind of like them, I think it needs more though. Would like some feedback on my bass levels if possible, not sure if the sub bass is to loud and I the sidechain pumping is bugging me, seems a bit out of rhythm?? Thanks in advance! |

Sounds pretty good here. I think your main synth/piano is a bit too loud though, could come down a few db, and the clap/snare up a few db. Bass could do with a little notching to make more room for the kick. .

hey man i think it sounds really good and i like some of your synth design as well the only thing i could say is its kind of got the same energy the whole time, it's like it starts at 9 then goes to 10 then back to 9 rather than starting at 3, peaking at 11 and going back down to 3 sorry for my random number description lol i couldn't really think of a better way to say it but i think it sounds bomb |

Well done, you have totally nailed the modern pop sound. I feel like Lady Gaga just rammed some chopsticks into both my ears and jangled them about whilst kicking me in the balls. |

sounds good but i agree with this. feels like you don't give yourself enough room to expand i guess is my way of saying it but still sounds dope | |

Compression or limiter brings the level down after the first initial synth when the bass comes in.

Thanks for comments, thats a problem I often come get 'accused' of, putting everything straight in from the off and having to add more and more to take the track higher. TBH I thought I was being conservative with this one and was thinking of adding a little something extra earlier on in the track lol. YEa I wacked in a (probably poorly set up) limiter just to do a volume boost. But from these posts at least I know im on the right track! thanks guys!! |

I agree with the previous responses ... synth a bit too loud, notching out to make a bit of room for both kick and bass. Lastly, maybe it's just me, but it sounds like there's just a tad too much high end on the synth. IMHO. otherwise, sounds really great. Keep at it. |
