| happy cycling | Stupid plugin interface design has a name: skeuomorphic interfaces Synthesizer 76 iPad App Shows Delights and Pitfalls of "Skeuomorphic" UI's | Co. Design UI Guidelines for Skeuomorphic Multi-Touch Interfaces Skeuomorphism 2.0 So, now it has a fancy name which means that the word "giant steaming pile of crap"... ![]() ...will no longer insult actual giant steaming piles of crap. ![]() Thankfully, a few plugins do this right (NI Massive, FAW Circle), but it looks like it's about to get worse instead of better. Everyone jumped on the Aqua bandwagon when OS X was released initially, I expect nothing different this time.

NI's FM8??? (don't flame me...) Nice plugin in terms of sounds; very powerful; love the morph controls... Otherwise its hard to fight the multipage GUI and get a flow together editing that synth. For me anyway, hard to build from scratch. Some of softube's original plugins e.g. passive active, FET compressor, are annoying too. Great plugs but a GUI thats all about 3rd pretending to be 70s hi-fi equipment with hard to read labelling is rubbish. (The softube bagging does not include their emulations e.g. Trident, tubetech, tonelux etc or Tsar1 which are fine) |

| happy cycling | No - I actually agree with you, but it's not skeuomorphic. FM7 was - FM8 does not resemble a known synthesizer. The operator buttons are too small, the matrix is too small, the envelopes should've been built with convenience in mind first (and then detailed editing!), zooming in on such a small piece of the window is awkward and clumsy. On the other hand the knob positions and labels are legible - but that's because none of 'm put grey text on a black background. |
