Thread Starter | nord rack 2x vs 3
Hi there, new to the forum, hello all, I'm in a pickle here, I'm out to get a hardware VA and I'm tossing up between the Nord Rack 2x and the 3. There doesn't seem to be a great deal of information out there on a straight up comparison between the two, what I also found strange was the lack of information out there on the 3, even going to youtube trying to hear the thing there was only a few vids.. So I thought I'd finally post up here, and ask, does anybody have any info they would like to share? From my impressions, the Nord Rack 3 is a more versatile unit, with plenty more modulation options, yet it lacks any onboard effects. Would love to hear what you guys might have to say about it. Cheers! |

They both share the lack of effects. The UI on the NL3 is really cool, and was a risk from changing the proven format of the NL1 and NL2. That said it uses some custom manufactured parts to Clavia's specifications which may be extra tricky to get in the future. Sound wise there is a shimmer difference between the two, I took the buget route and have a Nord lead 2. The guy I got mine from had replaced it with the NL3 himself and I had a about a hour of us playing them and checking out the differences. If I came across a NL3 I would grab it up over the 2/2X. The Nord Lead 2x is a expanded version of the Nord Lead 2 with additional storage plus. |

Haven't owned or played either, but I was very interested in getting one of the two a while back and read a lot about what people had to say about them. The NL2 supposedly sounds much thicker, and beefier. More " Raw " than the NL3. More cutting in the mix, better for leads. The NL3 is supposedly cleaner and softer, much better for doing pads and layered sounds. The NL3 is also supposed to have an amazing interface that's super easy to use. From the demos on youtube, the NL3 does sound more polished, more polite, and more modern than the NL2. Although I use the word modern lightly, since the NL3 is from like 2001 if I recall correctly, that's a 10 year old piece of hardware right there. |
