HELP does anyone have an MPK49 cd/dvd?

Hi,

I just picked up an akai MPK49 second hand, with the view of hooking it up to my laptop for live use with softsynths.

At the moment i'm trying to pair it with Arturia's Minimoog V - i've read online (here: http://www.akaipro.com/stuff/content...ation_v1_1.pdf ) that there is a template file (that i believe is provided on the MPK installation cd/dvd) that sorts out the midi mapping for the Arturia synths. At the moment the keyboard functions, but none of the sliders/knobs are assigned (or even, it seems, can be assigned) to the software parameters and filters.

Unfortunately, the previous owner provided me with the box/packaging/manual - but no CD!

So, if anyone has this CD, and could email me or somehow provide me with this midi mapping template file, i would be very much grateful! i have searched online, including the akai website, and can't find it anywhere...

Fingers crossed!

all the best,
Andy.

You can DL the zip file equivalent from akaipro. It's under the support tab I think.

Is this what you're talking about?
MPK49 PERFORMANCE CONTROLLERWITH12 MPC DRUM PADS

There are the Reason maps, but i can't find the Arturia ones?

If anyone could help me out here, i'd appreciate it a lot!

Cheers

Yeah, the vyzex preset editor zip file. Not sure if Arturia presets are in there or not, but that's the same stuff that's on the cd/dvd I believe.

Hi mate.. thanks for your help - i downloaded the vyzek zip, installed the program.. still can't find the arturia midi maps anywhere!! (I looked in the installation folder as well).

I've emailed akai (twice actually), but from what i've read about their customer support i don't think i have much chance of hearing back from them.

If somebody out there has the CD and can verify that all thats on it is that vyzek installation then that would be much appreciated!!

This is really annoying, as i want to use the minimoog software live, and need to have the mpk controls mapped to the software parameters, or it's pretty much useless. Very frustrating!

I'll check when I wake up (it's 4:40am here). Hopefully you get an answer before then. I have the disc somewhere. I do notice that there's an arturia preset in the menus on the keyboard.

You can always map it yourself using midi learn in whichever DAW you're running if the plug doesn't have a midi learn function built in.

thanks so much for your help mate!! i'll have a look at midi learn, haven't heard of that before. I'm running PT9, Cubase, and Reason.

According to the mpk manual, there is a file that you replace in the arturia folder where all the mapping is stored (it's called controlmidi). The plugin doesn't have any mapping function within the program, so as far as i can tell it needs to be programmed seperately. I want to run the plugin in stand alone mode if possible to reduce stress on the laptop for live use.

On a side note, the mpk works great hooked up to Reason.. unfortunately i don't like the reason moog style synths as much. maybe i should try to find a re-fill or something? It would be a shame to not use the Arturia though, it sounds great!

Thanks again for your help

Ok, didn't find the disc yet, but a quick check into the vyzex zip file for the MPK61 and I see Arturia control midi files. When I open the zip file, I see installers for Mac/Pc for the library software but there's also a "preset support" folder along with a pdf with instructions on how to load them.

There should be a way to manually map arturia functions as well, but I'm not familiar with them. In any case, the control midi file is there, at least in the MPK61/88 vyzex zip file.

Blacklion.. just wanted to say a huge thankyou for helping me out mate! the file was there, and works

If anyone is in the same situation please note that the files can be found in the vyzex zip in the MPK61/88 download section on the website, they are NOT in the MPK49 version of the vyzex zip file.

thanks again mate.. i probably would have given up on this by now! The controls are mapped out in a pretty wacky layout, but at least i have the file to work with now, will hopefully be able to figure it out

sure thing. check out the presets pdf in the same folder. There are directions for installing and a page with all the mappings for each template.

strange that it's not in the MPK49 file.

Cheers guys, all sorted!

i've been doing some editing with vyzex.. to change the mapping so it makes more sense to me.

The only prob i'm having is that a few of the sliders/knobs, although all mapped correctly don't seem to be working properly with the minimoog. Pretty weird. I'll keep playing with and try to figure out a workaround! Would be curious to hear if anyone else has had this prob though?
