Thread Starter | Picked up an sh-101 with a few little problems
picked up a blue sh-101 for $400 today that works perfectly except for a few little problems. The hold button is stuck on, and the key transpose button contact is also a bit sketchy. more importantly, the tune knob was replaced with one that doesnt really fit (it rattles around) and doesnt work, the pot is turning but the tuning isnt changing. for the buttons i think a little contact cleaner will work, but for do i have to to replace the tuning pot or could it be something simple im overlooking? im not a tech so sorry if these questions are kinda dumb. thanks |

congrats on your new SH101! and its a bluey..... Regarding the pot - is the plastic knob part loose or is the actual pot loose? If its just the knob take it off and use the pot knobless (there is something very wrong with how that last sentence sounds! ), but if the pot is loose you or someone else is gonna have to open the SH up and take a look. Its not rocket science though so i highly recommend you gen up a bit on soldering/de-soldering and have a go yourself, just do a bit of practice first on some old circuit board. If you end up getting the bug for old analogue you will save considerable cash in the long run, OTH if your loaded find a tech. You need to get the hold button sorted out soon don't you? I mean you can't really use it if everything you play is being held?! or do you just mean the led is constantly on? All in all though you have a great synth there for (compared to the UK) a very good price! If you are interested in syncing the SH101's sequencer to midi check this out - Engineers@work |

thanks for the advice! ya its not the led, its the actual hold. im gonna open it up and try to fix everything myself, trickiest part will be changing the pot (if it is indeed not working) but i think i can get everything figured out.

Chips for brains or technology transplant sell the sh-101 tuning pot. (I've fixed a few with this problem) The switches used are ordinary tact switches.. Just measure the dimensions and then do an eBay search for 'tact switch' and wade through until you find ones that match. Will set you back $3 for 50 tact switches or something like that. I think chips for brains / tech transplant also sell the switch PCB so that's an easier option. All the bad press about this seller is a lot of hype. If you pay with paypal you'll have nothing to worry about. |
