Thread Starter | Looking for help to control Edirol UM-550 from my DAW (Select the Patch with MIDI)
Hi there, I'm looking for help regarding the Edirol UM-550/880 MIDI Patcher. I have my own for more than 10 years and I was very happy... until a couple of weeks I tried to select the Patches not manually but using MIDI CONTROL Port. I have 4 Keyboards, 1 Sound Module and the UM-550 MIDI Patcher all connected to Sonar7 on a Core2Duo PC Win XP, and all work fine, I have to select the patch manually. On my UM-550 I have 5 different patches, so I would love to change the whole thing based on the song, including the UM-550 patch, I have to play live in a couple of months and this would make my live simple, just by calling a sequence on Sonar7 and all set!! I've read the whole manual and it looks very simple, on page 97 it says: 1. Receive data ■Channel Voice Messages ● Patch Change / Midi Control Port or USB Control Port Status 2nd byte CFH ppH pp = memory number: 01H – 08H (Memory 1 - Memory 8) * Used to switch patches. * When using Patch Change or system exclusive to change the current patch, the UM-880 will require up to 200 milliseconds of processing time in order to process the changes. When changing the current patch of the UM-880 from a sequencer, please allow an interval of 200 ms or more before the next data. This means I can change the patch by sending a simple Patch Change control. As I understand what the manual say: CFH 01H means: "C" means Patch Change command "F" means MIDI channel 16 ("H" it just to indicate is Hexadecimal notation) "01" means Parch 1 on the UM-550 memory I tried this on my Sonar 7 and also using a simple tool like MIDI-OX but nothing happen. I even tired sending full Patch Data (DUMP) after getting the Patch Dump to my Sequencer. Do you have any experience trying to control your UM-550 from your DAW? Thanks in advance for all your help on this, Have a nice day |

Just send it a simple patch change command from the sequencer. Any software worth it's salt should allow you to "write" one in on any track and midi channel Hell just transmit a patch change from the synth into your sequencer, record that, and then play it back where needed The Edirol units have a seperate channel/port for control changes |
