Increase bass on TB-303?

The TB-303 by itself dont have much lows, or well, i assume it doesnt? I dont own one myself, only testing the VST emulations of it.

How do you add lows to your TB bass? Layering a low sine underneath? Heavy EQ crafts?

Just love how Rob Acid do it, whish i know what he did.

I was just about to explain the bass boost mod, then I saw you didn't have a 303..
I know Rob has one though (and also ABL2, Shh!)
His 303 may be modified? I don't know. But many are, and the bass boost mod is very easy.. Just change 2 capacitors. Or on my x0xb0xes, I put them on switches, so I can switch back to stock.
Then again, it's nothing you couldn't do with some EQ, and that will be down to personal tastes, and the track you are working on anyway..

Pretty sure Mr.Babicz uses the 101 heavily for bass, or a sine wave from a plug which he distorts / saturates through outboard eq's and line amps.
303 for high lines, it can do some nice mid basslines, but not low, low, low.

The 303 does have nice low end. Never judge off of a digital ITB emulation. You can replace 2 capacitors in the VCA to give it even more low end. I did this to mine and do it to all the x0xb0xes i build.

And this thread goes right to the other thread a while back about how people like to post stuff that they're unsure of. This gives off false information to newer readers.

C20 & C21. Change them to .1uF, instead of .01uF

would these suffice as replacments?

Amazon.com: AVX 0.1uF 50V Thru-Hole Ceramic Capacitor Axial, Tape +80-20% Z5U (Bag of 25): Industrial & Scientific

the other two look more like resisters...

Right value.. I don't think ceramic is the right kind of capacitor for this though? You can check on the x0x forums.
I used ones more like this..
20PCS WIMA MKS 0.1uF 63V 5% Film Capacitors NEW / DIY | eBay

Ahh, capacitor gobbledegook code!
You may find the Adafruit assembly guide a little clearer on that..
x0xb0x
I believe you essentially want polyester/film caps of .1uF value. Voltage rating isn't so important (so long as it doesn't make them physically too big to fit). You might have a local electronics place that has them?

i read mines slightly different from older kits but didnt think it was a big deal at all.

that's a good idea, does radioshack count? lol

thanks bro

Don't bother with CFB. I got a set at Rat Shack a few years ago once. They were a little bigger than normal, but they fit.

In this case the OP sounded pretty unsure in the first place! i don't read much here to worry about false information wise.......plenty of good info ensued though.

You want a film cap in there. I use Nichicon YX ones for my builds. This is the one you want:

http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...9nXE%2fw%3d%3d

The Xicon film caps on the Adafruit BOM are all obsolete and discontinued. Xicon is out of the film cap business (which is fine, they are crap)

have you tried something like waves renbass? that should give you as much low-end boost as you'd ever want.

No waves here (curious to try the RBass tho..), but i layered in 2 sines underneath, and that works pretty good.

Nice. Do you ever use a compressor on a 303? Sometimes non accented notes dissapear in the mix, so I try some compressing, which never really works for me.

OHH, YES....very important on the 303 sound for me.....

one of the things that i do for having a steady line is, recording the same line 2 times, but one line with the cutoff total down, so you have the bass all the time, and the other one gets the modulation....

Ok, I'll try that.
