Better portable 'workstation' than Axiom 25

I just got this thing today, setting it up with Reason 5 wasn't TOO bad, but I'm at my wits end trying to get this thing to cooperate fully with Ableton... the knobs are ****ing STUPID, they either are controlling WAY too much or not enough at all and I have went in and turned down the curve... doesn't change a thing, there's no reason why spinning a knob 3x fully around finally yields 1 to 127 in Reason yet spinning a knob 1/8th will bring the level from 127 to 1...

tired of this thing,

can someone suggest me a portable that isn't a headache but yet still within the $200-$300 range?

I've had my eye on that one actually, but I plan on getting a Launchpad and a ZeRO MK II eventually which is the same exact thing with a crossfader... hmm I've also heard some people hate on the SL MK keys, I'll check it out... I just wish this Axiom worked a bit better, other than the knobs it works like a dream.

Edit: woah, that SL MK II 25 key version runs $360+ on Amazon... might be a little too pricy for all the features if I'm gonna get the ZeRO eventually :(

I own the ZeRO MK II and the Nocturn and love them both. The Nocturn knobs are allot smoother than the ZeRO's though. I use the Axiom 25 myself for keys only.

My first controller was the Axiom 25, traded it on a Novation Compact Remote 25SL, much better all around. Wish I had the cash to go for the SL mk II. It was all still not very portable, so I got an Akai Synth Station 25 I love that for real portability, grab my iPod touch and no laptop needed for airplanes, coffee shops, the beach, etc.

Posted via the Gearslutz iPhone app so please forgive any bad auto-correct. I'll try to fix it in the mix later!
