One piece that I def couldn't live without.... gotta be my MPC 60. It is my Main production hub, main Sequencer, midi router, sampler, drums, etc. Without it, my fx, filters, synths, etc are useless, ha.

I like the Electribe or MPC1000 idea, although the latter is a deeper machine, I doubt its as immediate as an Electribe. If not that then maybe a couple smaller pieces like a Monotribe, DS Mopho, Microkorg or Microsampler, or even a Kaoss Pad... those all get the juices flowing quite rapidly!

Used, you could pick up a DSI Evolver desktop model and a Korg KP3 Kaoss pad. Both can play it straight or cause mayhem. I can't live without either.

If I was to describe their sound I would say the MPC is more punchy and clean, and sounds better when you got all sounds playing together. While the Electribes sound more warm, massive and powerful more towards analog sort of sound, sort of sound that blows people away on the dancefloor due to the massive sound, but don't sound as good as the mpc once you have all sounds playing, but if used right this can be fixed especially if using the extra outs. Both working together is best of both worlds. | |

600 ukp is arround $980.. so there are several things you can do to raise things to a higher level production-wise.. from terribly unexciting, but insanely important stuff like acoustic treatment, or better monitors if ones aren't up to task. on the sexier side of things, you can always get a synth or fx for a grand.. too wide choice but few options that come to mind first: Prophet 600 for $600 - 650, a BBD (analog) delay like DMM or Boss DM series, aything from 200 to $300, and a nice vintage small stone for under hundred to round it off. or, blow everything on Chroma Polaris, if you can find one. for nice strings/brass, typical analog poly stuff. or, if you want a powerful monophonic for punchy basses and leads, that TI can only dream of: moog Source or, Roland SH2 and a BBD delay etc variations on that.. |
