Hardware live performance rig?

I record using a DAW and want to divide up parts of a song for live remixing, assembly and performance.

I was looking at the sp555. Seems reasonably suitable.

I've looked at the mv8000/8800 as well. Much heavier box.

I was also looking at Traktor Pro 2 with x1 controller or even maschine.

I've been messing around with a korg microsampler that I picked up it's not powerful enough to be the centerpiece, but it is certainly a fun addition to sync up.

I just don't want to deal with long load times or awkward glitches while live. But I need to actually be doing something on stage and not just karaoke.

Any ideas or recommendations for hardware?

im logic user as well and just tackling ableton. have you ever looked at mainstage? i checked it out, but really never delved into the app because it takes up so much CPU. just a thought.

ive seen some dope live sets off the sp555, 404 and 303. those are really hardware based so if youre more hands on then id say stick with those. the sp 404 is small, but ive seen live sets from SAMIYAM and JONWAYNE tear it up on that machine. i know madlib used to jam live sets with the 303.

also the 555 has an optical theramin which is super cool in a live setting.

the mv8000/8800 is a monster, but i dont know if you want to lug that around for live performances. its mainly for studio use, but ive def seen it on stage before.

its all on preference if you do or do not want to be looking at computer screen. my friend works off the maschine where its interface is computer based, but he pretty much does everything off the controller not the computer. he produces, sequences, and plays live. when playing live his whole set is there and the main focus is on the controller and his keyboards. hope this helps!

definitely helps.

back in the 90s I used to lug 8 synths live and then a submix for everyting in an enormous skb gig rig. can you imagine? Then we smartened up and got DAT machines. But it felt like karaoke and kinda crapped out the energy.

I'm starting a new one man experimental-industrial-punk project and I'm composing and arranging per the usual DAW etc

However, for the live aspect, I'm just sorta not sure how to proceed. The whole laptop look on stage is pretty lame, so I'd love to keep it to "machines". I use those newish digitech hotwire guitar pedals for vocals in another band and they sound pretty cool. I can footswitch in weird fx and dial up bizarre delays live when I'm singing. So, I plan to use these.

I'd love to pull of the same sort of creative flexibility with the songs as well. I read a few threads on the sp555 and a bunch of guys trashed it. The sp808 is older and I've heard the whole "read from the zipdrive" has been problematic for live use.

The mv series used is about the same price as the sp555 and seems more powerful but like I said before, they weigh in at 22 pounds and have quite a footprint.

So, thank you for sharing what you've seen on stage. This means a lot to me.

This thing looks pretty bad ass. I'll have to compare it the sp555. Right off though, the specs really destroy the sp555. The footprint is tiny: 13inches wide and weighs 5 pounds. It supports up to 64gb of cf memory? holy shit. And 8 tracks of of full blown midi ... guess I can bring my dave smith mopho for live use

So, I'm going to read the manual tomorrow.

Thank you for the recommendation
