GS, did I do good?

Not only did I get my first outboard synth today...I got 2!

Blofeld was 400, mopho was 6, both used off craigslist. I was originally just going for the mopho, but I decided the Blofeld looked good too. And I was right

However...I'm thinking about selling the mopho. For just 30 more, musician's friend can send me a brand new one with one of their 15% off coupons. Not sure if it's really worth it though...I love this thing!

Here's my setup as it stands.

Anyone care to share any good resources? Suggestions for use with a DAW? I'm psyched, these sound awesome

Mopho keyboard and Blofeld module for $1K is not the deal of the century, but it is a very, very good one. Lots of excellent music can be made with those two alone.

Welcome to the wonderful (and dangerous) world of hardware!

As for resources, check out this page:

Dodgy encoders is a known problem on Blofelds, so you may have to fix them at some point...

LOL.

They're all making their disco records with synthesizers and drum machines. You whippersnappers better learn to play a real instrument, because the AFM has your number!

Good buy: yes. Decent, anyway.

Can you make a lot of music with these things: yes.

LOL.

Know the feeling. One of the things I like about this place is the diversity of age groups. You've got the occasional vintage hippie from the 60s who stops by, 70s synth gods, 80s synthpop junkies (I'll put myself in this category), 90s techno-heads, ravers and trip-hoppers, 00s BOC dreamers and NIN screamers, and present day cutting edge glitchers and laptoppers. Pretty rich community, I'd say.

Never thought of it that way exactly, but very well put - that is a perfect description of gearslutz and the reason I hang around here, (I'm with maisonvague I'm probably fitting in the 80's synthpop junkie slice of the pie too).

Somehow I manage to straddle all of those....

Nice combo, good deal. As was said you'll get a lot milage out those two, they both sound excellent. Long term you might tire of the blofeld, the mopho you will never tire of.

But why would you sell the mopho and then buy a new one, if the one you've got is working properly?

Blofeld is pretty versatile, actually. I find it to be a shockingly inspiring synth. For me, the monophony of the Mopho is the limitation. Thank DSI for that poly-chaining.

OP: deal is average, but purchase is wise. Watch out for the bug.

You didn't do good until you made some tracks with them!

+1 on this community. It's diversity it's what keeps it from cannibalizing itself.

Imagine if anyone around here wanted to sound like Skrillex or any other current trend.

Great choice on both those. They seem to be two of the few that pretty much everybody agrees on around here.

=/ Some of the buttons seem a bit loose and the keys feel played...not that these are bad things (well if the buttons are short on life expectancy, that's bad, but broken in keys are fine), but to me it seems like getting a mopho with the box, original paperwork, warranty, etc. in brand new condition for 30 more...especially considering I already have a buyer for 660 on CL

I'm an 80s synthpop junkie. In fact, I think I may have regressed and become a 70's synth god.

Back to the OP, The Mopho was my latest synth purchase. Although it sounds very similar to my Prophet 600, I am very pleased with it. Feels like it's built solid. Was having Moog Source fever, but with a Voyager already at hand, the Mopho fit in quite nicely.

Showing my age the first thing I think of when I see BOC is Blue Oyster Cult but once I put it in context I realized it must be Boards of Canada. ( I like them both ).

Ikea! And it's really more like a table...which is a good thing

I forget the model name, but it's part of their modulas (?!) table system. You can add on end pieces, different types of legs, even do a wrap around!

I'm planning on getting the Rast breakfast bar arms for my monitors after my move...and also possibly the monitor stand/shelf to keep things a bit neater/a fun place to keep stomp boxes.

Peace. This works as the first post of a new thread, entitled:

Gear slutz! Identify yourselves!

I'm a 90s techno-head, raver and trip-hopper

I didn't know what BOC meant either, and thought Boards of Canada were more a 90's group?

@aunshui,

two very nice synths right there, mate

BOC as 'Blue Oyster Cult' ... Wow. I haven't thought about them for years! I guess my brain has since been re-programmed to associate those initials with Boards of Canada. It's going to take one hell of a band, however, to re-program the initials OMD. Haha

They did get their start in the 90s, yes (as did NIN actually). But in the same way I think of Pink Floyd as a 70s band (and not a 60s band, despite having formed in 1965), I bumped them up to the new millennium where I feel their visionary sound belongs. Call it 'historical poetic license' if you will, 'revisionist' if you must.
