Hello, My moniker is Dichotomos. I make an assortment of different music. I have been away working for the past couple of years and I would like to start up again. That being said I am looking forward to posting music and reading the interesting article here or there. Cheers!

Hi, my name is John and I enjoy playing guitar, analog synths and recording from home. I attended San Francisco State University and then interned at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, CA. I love the studio environment and I'm pursuing a career in music/sound production. This site and it's members have helped me tremendously. I look forward to participating in discussions and learning as much as I can.
I WANT TO QUIT MY DAY JOB!!!

Hi, I lurk and occasionally stalk producers I like on here.
And sometimes I try to troubleshoot issues I have with my DAW and lone piece of hardware (I love mid to late 90s dnb, and bought a pristine E-MU 6400 Ultra for $200 U.S. a year ago).

I'm 31, started playing guitar when I was in 5th grade and Metallica's Black Album came out, Kirk's solo in Enter Sandman made me pick up guitar. I was fortunate that my father made me take classical guitar lessons for 2 years, even though I didn't really take it seriously cuz I just wanted to shred on electric, it was invaluable, as it gave me a really good solid foundation in theory...
I was a shredder/metalhead until my late teens, when I started getting into other kinds of music...I had a cheap Tascam 4 track cassette recorder that I used to record my guitar comps along with a cheap no name pawn shop bass, Alesis SR-16 Drum Machine, and cheap old Casio keyboard to add strings and horns and stuff...
I then got a KORG Triton LE with the EXB-SMPL board so I could record my guitar and have better sounding guitar bass drums strings horns etc, but once I really sat down with it and raelized what was possible with keys, I put the guitar down and never looked back!!! I was hooked, rocking the thing 8 hours a day...
Throughout my late teens early 20's I continued to play in bands, however by the end of my early 20's I just got so sick of dealing with all the BS that comes along with gigging and bands and the fact that with the exception of one, every single muso I ever met were all just unbelievably delusional, feminine, immature, flakey, unreliable, the list goes on, that I completley gave up gigging and playing in bands altogether...
I messed with the Triton LE for a while, then soon got tons of other synths and rack units, over the years just about every major one from the early mid80's to the late 90's at one point or another, then aaround 2006 or so I got turned onto Reason (2.0 at the time), and that was another breakthrough, I sold all my hardware and got verson 4.0, and used that exclusively for a while, then got Logic Pro 9 primarily so I could mix and master what I was donig in Reason, along with being able to use Komplete 5....
I've been writing and recording and playing at home with the gear in my sig for many years now and couldn't be happier, though I must say about a year ago I hit a SERIOUS creative block and am still in it and that sucks, but it has made me focus on playing classical pieces and doing solo piano arrangements of various pop tunes and standards.

Hi,
it's Jan. Been reading here for a long, long time and just thought, it's time to register and say 'hello'. I like synthesizers. And guitars. Lots of handclaps. I don't really like cymbals or hi-hats with a endless release like the last hour of 'lord of the rings'.
Gear:
DSI Mopho Keyboard
Waldorf Blofeld Keyboard
Yamaha AN1x
Korg MicroX
Yamaha YS200
Mac, Cubase 6, FXpansion Geist and some stuff.
A guitar.
A bass guitar.
I've got an Roland D20, a Yamaha SY77 and TG33 ... but they just sit around waiting to be sold.
That's pretty much me.

Hi guys, real name's Daniel but Yoko is fine as well, since it's been my nickname with friends for a long time, even before I started to use it on the net and as an artist moniker.
I've been DJing as a hobby for over 12 years now, was collecting 90s retro Hard-Trance vinyls for most of the time but have only recently gotten into producing (since Dec 2011), after it's been on my wishlist for a long time but never got it together to really dive into all the aspects before. So far I've used software only, but ordered a MiniBrute as my first analog hardware synth now and really looking forward to it!
My longterm "dream" is to get more gear and eventually have a little home-studio when the space permits it (right now it's too cramped in the apartment). So far I've read up on vintage synths just for the fun of it, it's a really interesting world But knowing me, it could also end up like me just getting sick of all the complicated aspects and turning to something else...I hate that part of myself sometimes. But right now I'm totally in production euphoria and if I had the money, would buy gear after gear...
And the other thing missing is the time to do more productions...well who doesn't have this problem
I feel fortunate to have a few remixes released already so I must be doing something right...but I still have a long way to go. Looking forward to my active time here after just reading passively before, and hope I'll have something to contribute as well |

| Been lurking around here for a while so I decided to register.
I've been into electronic music from the age of 15 and started to do my own stuff after I turned 20.
Don't know if I'm still ready to call myself as a producer, since I haven't released any tracks to the public I guess I'm too critical towards my own pieces.
And sorry if there's any strange or funny grammar errors/typos...English is not my native language so have fun if you notice any |

Greetings fellow Gearslutz!
I came here for tips on project studios and how to set up decent acoustics on a budget, as well as anything else you have! Music studios have always been amazing to me since I did my first live session at a friend's place with a funk/soul/latin fusion group, and since my buddies are still in the industry I've spent way too much time drooling over their equipment, it was time for my own!
I've always been into music, but over the past 6 years I've been getting into electronic music production.
I started as a DJ at 15 after playing live instruments for years, I pretty much stopped doing live music (aside from DJing) in college due to budget and time constraints, but my passion for music has been unwavering.
I'd say I'm still more of a musician than a producer, as I'm still finding my groove in electronic music and I have a lot to learn about the tools that I have at my fingertips. My biggest issue at this point is that I SUCK at putting together a full song by myself, but I thrive in collaborative sessions, so I need to work on that most of all.
Cheers,
Lucius

Greetings, Slutz.
Long-time lurker with a couple of worthless comments under my name so far (which I vow to change) I'm a synth-slut, a bit of a piddler and a tweaker, with any luck I'll move onto being a fiddler and a tinkerer in no time.
I make solo music for fun under the name namahshaman. Here's a little linky: same road a ore mas by namahshaman on SoundCloud - Create, record and share your sounds for free
More seriously though, I'm in a band with three other scumbags called Transmute. Here's a link to a poor-quality video some guy took with his phone at our last show. TRANSMUTE - LiVe Nightclub - Pensacola, FL - YouTube
We're currently mixing our first EP and hope to release it within a month.
My gear:
Moog- voyager, phatty, mf101, mf102, mf104m, mf105m, mf107, mf108m, cp251
Nord- Lead2x, Electro2 rack
Korg- Electribe SX1, KP3
Electro-Harmonix- Cathedral reverb, V256
Boss- RE-20, VE-20
Doepfer- R2M
Ableton Live
Novation- SL MKII
Allen and Heath- ZED-14
M-audio- profire 2626
QSC- 2 K12, 2 KW153, K-sub

I am yet another Daniel. (Shutoku is my Buddhist name)
I am 49 and have been making music my whole life.
I was born a Beatles fan and became a decent drummer and guitarist by the age of 12.
I took up keys originally for two reasons : I could solo and keep a bassline going myself on piano, and secondly I fell in love with the sound of moogs.
Shortly after taking up keys I discovered Yes and Rick Wakeman who became the single biggest influence on my keyboard playing.
As a teen I started off with combo organs and electric pianos. My first synth was a Roland sh 1000. Over the years I've owned a variety of Korg, Roland and Yamaha synths.
I've played in many cover bands, some originals, did a few jingles and some tv work, all the while earning a living teaching piano guitar drums bass and voice in my home along with my wife (also a piano teacher).
Nine years ago I lost most of the hearing in my left ear due to a virus and decided to retire from performing. This summer I realized that sitting beside the piano instead of behind it my technique had dropped dramatically. So I am in the midst of learning the entire Six Wives of Henry VIII by Wakeman as an exercise to get my chops back.
I also plan a couple original new age recording projects in the near future.
I am woefully out of touch with new gear. My current rig is mostly Korg: mono/poly m1 and sp250 piano along with a little Yamaha cs-01 mono synth.
I still have not owned a moog (except the animoog on my iPod ) and hope to one day save up to get a minimoog or at least a prodigy. I definitely like the analog stuff.
Not sure how much I'll post. I am mostly looking to learn and catch up on all the new gear.
Besides this first post is long enough to equal six months of regular posting!

enjoyed reading this stuff-good to meet you all there is some funny entries...as someone who has been around for the last few years here is my contribution...
Im english guy Steve SWAN808 (SWAN stood for my and a producer friend initials-a project that fell thru but the name stuck). I found this place a few years back after my health took a turn for the worse. Ive been trying to recover from chronic fatigue syndrome for most of my twenties - and Gearslutz has helped me along the way keeping my spirits up and playing with new gear. Not been able to write much music recently as its difficult when you are utterly exhausted-but had a couple of records out before and ran a club night in started in Manchester then London.
I started out playing the trumpet! Then graduated to electric guitar once I heard Nirvana as a teen. Went thru the indie stage, nu metal, was a hip hop and scratch DJ at Uni then got into dance music culture.
Now Im an old dog at 31 but Im hoping sometime soon I will get to realise my musical ambition and make a form of music that combines all my influences over the years-before I get too old and dont care any more. At present its aimed at a sort of Soul Clap/M83/Friendly Fires/The XX but it tends to shift depending on what Im influenced by. Shoegaze House music. Its just for fun but Im looking at some business stuff involving music as a 'on the side' career option.
At the moment Ive got Ableton plus samples plus an OB8, Moog Source, Microzwerg, TX7 and a few bits of rack outboard. Plus 2 electric guitars and a bass. Over the last 6 years Ive tried a huge range of gear buying and selling.
Here is a pic of me just before I got ill - off my face at a warehouse party playing with a stupid plastic bat. |

Hi folks, I've signed up to the forum after having been a lurker for ages. :D
I've been into all sorts of electronic music for almost 25 years now and been trying to make my own electronic music on and off for about 16 years. Just had a long 'off' period despite still having a small home studio and I'm looking at getting back into making tunes again. |

Hello everyone! I've lurked around here for a while, but just made the plunge into hardware about a month ago, after coming into a little money (I sold off some of my old hobby, which was collectible puzzles)
The last hardware synth I owned was a Poly 800, but sold it back in the late 80's. Just this month alone, I've purchased a Korg EA-1 (off craigslist for $80!), a Korg Electribe EMX-1 (the older version with smart media card), a Kaoss Pad (original), a Korg MS2000R, and a Mopho desktop synth!
I'm also looking at a Roland SH-32 possibly. On my wish list are a Minitaur, and to start getting the monthly synthesizers.com modular kit...
As far as software goes, I've been using FL Studio for years, and I really like it, even though I guess it has a bad reputation in some circles. I've been interested in learning Ableton some day though. I own Native Instruments Komplete, but find myself using Absynth most of the time. I also have been know to play around on the iPad - using the iMS20, DX7, and Sunrizer synths. I also enjoy using my Nintendos - I have the DS-10, the Korg M1, Electroplankton, and nanoloop and LSDJ too with two original gameboys. Lot's of fun stuff.
Where I am lacking is in integration hardware. I have an old Tascam four track recorder, but I really need to get a better audio interface. Right now, I'm just using my old Audigy 2 ZS pro with front panel. Really need a USB mixer, midi interface, etc... to round it all out.
Oh, and I also play old-time banjo, bass-trombone, and piano!

Yo,
My name is Chris. Recently got into making music. I've played football for 8 years and played college football at ODU. Recently broke a vertabrae in my neck which has caused me not to be able to play anymore (no pity party) I've always wanted to get into producing. Now I have the time...not sure what genre I wanna get into. But, I think i'll let the creative juices lead me in the right direction. Any tips, hints, shortcuts I should know getting started will help a great deal. Thank you. Look forward to getting to know you all. |

Hi people!
Just registered and pretty new to Gearslutz! But not to music..
Been doing it almost 10 years now in front of FLstudio, also started my education at SAE Stockholm in the Audio Production Program to learn everything from the beginning and also get the classic audio engineer thinking in my head!
As an artist i create progressive trance/house under my real name Johan Vilborg and had some tracks up on the trance charts at beatport recently!
Cheers!

My name is Rob, been djing/producing for the last 10 years. Took a 2 year hiatus and decided to get serious. I gutted my basement and turned it into a mixing room/studio. Bought some gear (not enough), made tracks, and started a label. I'm into techno.. straight up, no nonsense, techno.
Interested in meeting other producers with the same ambition and motivation to work on projects and release tracks.
I thought I was a gear nerd till I met you guys. |

Well i grew up listening to trance like dj teisto all pop trance stuff then developed a ear for psytrance in my mid teens because i started going to doofs. Also a fan of dubstep and any electronic music for that matter but don't really listen to other genres all that much. I have very little musical background accept that i played drums when i was 11 and 12 and about a month ago i decided i wanted to learn to write electronic music and my choice of DAW is cubase. I have only just started to understand the layout but still have tons of music theory, composition and structure that i still need to understand as well as how sound synthesis works. Analog and Digital both play a part and neither is better then the other?
