that's a lot of kablinky

typo in the first sentence of the description

it appears to have a track mute section like mmt-8 though which would be nice

looks like they're putting their bling where their blang is. if it blows up, hopefully it will make a major blang in the midi hardware drum machine that you can sample and sequence with industry

Theres a thread in the hip hop section talking about the pricing of this unit and how they werent gonna be able to release at this price but wow the possibilities of gear selection you can make for that amount and realize a great sound without pretty lights.

They have one at Moog Audio in Montreal, I played with it a bit.

The pads felt nice, I like the layout for playing melodies. The track mute section is handy too. Overall it does feel plasticky but not too much.
You can go back and forth with the VST, which is nice to finish things up ITB.

The pitch and mod wheels on both sides of the unit are a nice and original touch.

Included sounds sounded punchy and modern, good flavor. I didn't try the effects, but the selection seems large.

The screen looks good too, better than the cash register green screens of the MPCs.

The price? Well it's in the price range for a MPC, which are getting a bit old feature-wise.

I can't comment on durability obviously.

Basically if you can get over the ghetto marketing, it's a cool piece of gear.

My beef isn't with the marketing, it's with the unit itself. For something that costs over twice as much, i doubt it's as solid a contender as maschine, or even spark, though I haven't been able to play with that one yet. Are all those flashy lights really worth the extra cost? Seriously? For only 500 more you could have a tempest

This article says it will be available July 17th and that they've produced a "limited run" of only 1000 units.
Beat Kangz Beat Thang Available July 17 For $1,500 » Synthtopia

Best Buy seems like an odd choice for something in that price range. They'll probably get a ton of kids looking at it and interested in it, but as soon as they see the price it will be

They definitely needed to rethink their strategy.
