Thread Starter | Want to sell Nord Lead 2x rack and buy DSI Tetra or Juno 60
Hey guys, I've decided to sell my nord lead 2x rack and go for either DSI Tetra or Roland's Juno 60 which is in excellent condition. I've purchased nord last year, and it is definitely one of a hell VA synth, easy to program, fast envelope and on board knobs, also not only it has great pads but good bass sounds as well. So what changed my mind? Recently i've bought my first analog VCO mono synth Vermona Mono Lancet, and it literally blew me away! So this time I want to go for an analog polyphony synth. Could get DSI Tetra for the same price, or fully serviced Juno 60 for 870 euros. Now, for Juno 60 i would need to invest additional 200 euros for Kenton MIDI to DCB convertor, and I could do that by the time, but then Juno would cost me 1070 euros! And Tetra goes for 650 euros. Is it worth it? I am seeking for those deep house leads, stabs and basses, which you can find in tunes by Terry Lee Brown Jr, The Timewriter, Manuel Tur, Motorcitysoul, Azuni...In regards of audio interface, currently I am using Apogee's Duet, which means I can only use 1 stereo input at the time, so Tetra's 4 multitibral means a lot. I heard that Tetra sounds great and is extremely diverse but has issues when it comes to sitting sounds in the mix..? Also I really want to get involved physically with the synthesizer, and this is where Juno 60 (or nord lead) wins toward Tetra, the interface. Should I go for Juno or Tetra? Or keep the nord lead 2x? Would really appreciate your opinions. Cheers, Daniel |

+1 for the Juno, very nice bass presence, easy to program, but plagued by the usual downfalls of vintage analog gear (maintenance, sketchy sellers, and incorporating it into the modern DAW/Midi environment). Wow those Juno's have really gone up in price! 870 euros? WoW! A cheaper alternative for that standard House string/pads/stabs sounds is the Roland JX8p. User interface is not as "knobby" as people would like, but so cheap to find with an amazing sound. Not as deep bass-y as the Juno, but one hell of a underrated synth. Or the Juno 106, but lately they've gone up in price as well. I don't own a tetra but looking forward to one pretty soon hopefully if I can't find a damn Prophet 600 or Polysix soon. |

Tbth, I think you would get alot more milage out of a DSI Tetra than a Juno 60. The Juno, as popular as it seems to be, is now at a price that is, lets be honest, a little questionable for what you get. (I'd say the same for Polysix). The other thing I'd point out is the Nord is the one VA that can do the Roland sound quite well. (add external chorus of course). I have got very good approximations of Juno and JX on my Lead 2X. I think the Nord and Tetra would be an interesting contrast, and ultimately give you alot more down the road.

Juno 60 all the way. One of my all time favorites. It just sounds so good and you'll appreciate the hands-on interface as compared to the Tetra.

| side note.... i personally know the two guys behind azuni (they live in the same city as I do) and they do everything in the box. ableton live & softsynths. i used to work with one of them 5 years ago (before azuni was started) and the guy brought to my studio 2 junos (106 and 60) and two arp (axxe and odissey) but he eventually sold everything. that said, i love too my juno106/mks-50(alphajuno 2 rack) and sh-101 combo. And I miss the juno 60 as well. Since in the last months I haven't got so much time to go to the studio (4 months old daughter) I'm doing a lot at home with just softsynths, it really take a while to have them sounding right but they indeed have a lot of potential. you may want to try the juno60 emulation of TAL (togu audio line) called TAL U-NO 60 followed by eg some nice sound toys plugs to "phatten up" -in case you decide to go for the tetra. |

Gotta agree with Flat Earth. As someone who owns both a Tetra and Juno-6, I would say for the money the Tetra is far more useful. The Juno has its own distinctive sound, but is very limited. If you can't have both, get the Tetra. Programming is easy with the software editor.

they produce amazing records! i guess it's a matter of how you can squeeze the best of what you got, right? well, I am beginner and i really dont want to spend hours clicking with mouse, just want to interact with the machines. Maybe Azuni started like that and then realized they could do everything from the box since they know what and how they can get certain sounds..yes, TAL would be good alternative I guess, Dennis Ferrer uses it, but then again he owns a bunch of great compressors and eq's that compensate for that... | |
