Whats Your Least favorite (/rinsed) audio effect..

Im talking the kind of effect that is instantly recognisable (say "oh thats Logic's Ringshifter" or "yep, there is Abletons Beat Repeat again")

Mine is one that is plastered all over EDM productions, that "modulation delay" sound..available in Logics native effects bundle. Its a shame it is so over used, as when applied with some subtlety it can actually yield some great results!

i was close to putting "excluding autotune" in the original post, as we all know everybody hates that by now...

Pitchbend on a monosynth lead -- a little too cheesy for my tastes .

I personally dislike giant, cavernous reverbs.

Percussion-induced ducking on the beat. So overdone at this point.

Kaka #1: Digital reverb without any pre-delay, especially on a great sounding analogue synth like CS80, Prophet, etc. It completely kills the tone.
Kaka #2: Filter overdrive (e.g in Moog Little Phatty). The most overrated and the worst sounding feature of this nice synth.

Hakuna Matata :-)

seems to be a lot of hate towards massive, im guessing because of its incessant use within dubstep, however, i actually think it is a relatively nice sounding soft synth when used with a bit of restraint.

Hmm, I guess eventually people will work out Largo is far better for Dubstep (way way way better filters for dubstep and better wt's) and massive is actually a really good synth for a lot of purposes, amazing for drums and rhythmic percussive sounds.

To the OP, Autotune, DIE!

I have tried multiple times to like Largo, I really have.

Largo is fairly inaccessable (read: a pain in the ass) to program, and does not lend itself to the instant gratification that Massive can provide to beginners. And the wavetables in Largo tend to me more of the harmonic variety as far as I can tell rather than the ratty, gritty bastards you find in massive.

I'm open to being proven wrong, but this is what I have seen as the case so far.

absolutely. wish they'd make an 8 voice drum machine version - i can get better kicks out of massive than any drum synth, and that includes utonic.

Largo is not so bad to program , ever tried U-HE ACE or the Moog Modular? It does have it's little turns though.

You don't have any control of filter overdrive in massive , bar leaving the osc inputs at full, which really lets it down in my eyes, I don't want to use scream all the time. To me the wavetables in Largo are far deeper, it just takes longer to get it right.

Massive is probably the easiest vst to modulate though, the envelopes and lfos are amazing. But to be honest, there are maybe 8 or 9 wavetables that give that quick fix and they are becoming very overused very quickly, probably they were fully intended for that purpose.

Have you checked out Zebra? You can draw your own wavetables in, it's possibly the best VSTi (imo) but I actually removed it because it soaks up too much time, it's also pretty complex and a lot less visual in some ways, but possibly the most powerful overall.

Was just about to post the same. Sometimes flanger can be OK, but you can literally use it once and then that's it, because it's such an obvious effect. I sold my Boss BF-2 because of this: only Boss pedal I ever sold. Love my MXR Phase100 though.

Hilarious to see Massive being dissed as a cliche, I remember the resounding silence when it first came out (and I got it, and have enjoyed it ever since) what, three years ago already?

I don't mind, less people that know what it's good for the better, I prefer it to Sylenth1. Sylenth does sound more "Analogue" but that's all it sounds. Great if you want classic sounds, but all it can do is pure subtractive.

not sure the synth itself is under scrutiny here, just the overwhelming amount of piss poor 'wobble' patches it seems to be used for. Which is a shame as its engine is capable of some amazingly varied and complex patches.

i dont want to see this thread turn into a massive/dubstep (/brostep) bashing arena though, we have already had too many of those.

Besides abused auto-tune effects, I can't think of a single effect that I dislike as a rule... there is an appropriate time for every effect I can think of.
