I can never use Phasers in my music. There's something about them that just completely makes it impossible to sit properly in the mix.

Funny, by the end of this thread just about every effect is mentioned...I'm now scared to use anything but an acoustic guitar recorded through a 58, dry! LOL.

^ for me it doesn't get more cliche' than a dude singing with an acoustic guitar. It has always been my most hated instrument. lol

I have a DJM3000 that I ****ing love and I agree, although not that the effects are bad but rather that the majority of DJs who use them just punch them in at full volume on the master channel, which is obnoxious.

Not a lot bothers me in electronic music these days. I figure there is something for everyone etc and I usually just tune out if its rubbish.

But I do have one thing that really bothers me and thats the 4/4 kick in ambient/Dub techno. So often its in these slow ambient tracks when its completely redundant sounding to my ears. You will have this wonderful chilled textured slow track and then a 4/4 kick and offbeat hihat!!??

Totally unnecessary as its not main floor dance music and would be so so so much nicer with a different pattern. And there is a lot of this going on. Its a bit of an epidemic ATM. Deepchord tend to make it work but there are so many that don't.

There are so many good effects that have destroyed due to herd mentality copycating each others: vinyl lo-fi, delay dub, autotune. You name it...

i agree, there is a place for all fx, even if they just end up becoming a very small part of the background. maybe people should start using fx, instead of using presets, or combining presets of various fx, then we won't notice the obviousness that people are hating.
