Thread Starter | Anyone heard of the Yamaha TX1?
A post on SonicState in the review section for the Yamaha TX816 rack of eight TF1 modules makes mention that the TX816 is part of the "massive TX1 rack system." Anyone ever heard of this synth? A web search is coming up empty. Not talking about the TX1/p which is a piano module. |

It's a rack unit (4U IIRC) with up to eight detachable vertically-mounted modules, each one is basically a complete TX7. Yamaha used to sell it as TX216 (2 modules), TX416 (4 modules) and TX816 (8 modules.) At the time, it was crazy expensive, but then again when people were working with multi-timbral synths/modules capable of a mere 16-voice polyphony, the TX816 could provide a massive 128 (we had no HD recording back then, if you didn't have enough voices, you had to go trough the hassle of putting some of your sequencer tracks on a multi-track tape machine and then sync the whole thing via SMPTE. Major PITA!) I know, by today's standards it's no big deal, but 25 years ago it was. | |

After doing a bit more more research, the Yamaha TX1 appears to be a synthesizer "system" Yamaha marketed that was comprised of the following components: TX816 synthesizer MV802 mixer KX88 master controller REV5 effects unit QX1 sequencer BTW, the TX816 rack the TF1 modules reside in is called out as Yamaha Model MRF8 (Midi Rack Frame) in the service manual. |

I also came across something called a Tx1/P. I never saw one before but it is a single space rack piano module. Looks similar to a TX81z.
