A Question About Thom Yorke style (?) drums

Hey there. Yesterday I was listening to The Eraser(Thom Yorke's solo album) and i was wondering how did he do those snare sounds on his song "The Eraser". Is he layering his snares with white noise? Or is it all sampling? Am I able to create snares like his using Reason? Btw, I'm referring to this song.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you! So how do I create this kind of drums in Reason? Sounds like i have to make a noise osc using Thor and making it play with my snare at the same time?

Is this even possible?

do you have the latest reason?

if you do should take 2mins to get it using kong's snare synth, i've attached a quick go i had at it. realised after when listening back to the eraser that i've pitched it too high, but it's got the white noise bit going so you should be able to replicate it easy enough.

i'm actually an ableton user, but i recently downloaded the reason5 demo to have a play with kong, definitely worth the upgrade if you're already a reason user. kong is very cool, makes it very quick to synth your drum hits using it aswell as all the other functions it has.

Thom Yorke didn't produce the album btw. He only composed the songs and did piano, guitar and vocals. All the electronic stuff was done by Nigel Godrich, a Radiohead long time collaborator.

Yeah, I used to have Ableton too but I got bored with it and its use of VSTs. Reason is much better.

bump for Nigel's drum production on The Eraser, Thom's new stuff and SiSiBakBak remix...how does he make them so punchy and in your face without sounding clubby?

On the most recent Radiohead tour they were using modular drum voices sequenced in a Eurorack setup for some songs - like:

Tiptop Audio - BD808: Analog Bass Drum
Tiptop Audio - SD808: Analog Snare Drum
Tiptop Audio - HATS808: Analog Hi-Hats

You could run those through modular filters and processors to get sounds like on The Eraser.

My GF uses the 'Impulse' drum synth from Ableton and one of the drum machines in Reaktor (can't remember the name, sorry) and her drums sound a LOT like the Thom Yorke stuff.

I would use Microtonic to get something similar myself.

OK - she says she uses Sinebeats & Aerobic (both from Reaktor), Impulse (from Ableton) and also NI Battery.

And as ksandvik said, Microtonic is a bit good at these styles too.

Hardware wise, I'd recommend a Korg Electribe ER-1.
