Yamaha DX7 Sound Problem

Hello guys!

Need your advice - recently managed to get used Yamaha DX7 in good overall condition.

All keys are working, all patches are playing, battery voltage is 2.7V (which is OK as far as I know).

Problem: each time I am pressing any key there is a short noise (clicking/flickering) occurring before the sound has been produced, thou the actual sound is not distorted.

Anyone had this problem? How to deal with it?

DAC has to be changed? Or may be one of the op-amps? Or dirty keyboard contacts? (but all keys are producing this sound)

please help

Just curious is you ever found a solution to this problem. I'm having the same exact issue myself. It sounds like there's some percussive effect with a little portamento on top of the presets. Ive tried adjusting the Function parameters and that hasn't helped. No one I've talked to has any idea except that the chip is messed up somehow. This is so frustrating as I'm sure you know.

Does it happen on the initialized sounds?

protip: this erases all the patches

Post a sample.

There's a trimpot in there (VR7) that may need to be adjusted, but I don't know what it does or how to adjust it.

I had this issue with my Alpha Juno. Clean contacts. 10 minute job. All better.
If that doesn't work or you don't wan to open it. take it to a local electronics repair shop or music store.
It's on all sounds, right? Not envelope snap?
Best of Luck!
