Midi controllers and the Microwave I.

I want to find a controller for the Microwave I, I already have a Kore 2 can't find a template for the MW.

I'm thinking a used Kenton control freak Live which i know there's a template for the MWI.

What other controllers are people using that have templates ready to go?

Microwave I has two manuals. I'll dig mine up & see if it has the sysex/CC sdata in it. I've used a BCR2000 for mine.

I use a Novation remote zero. Basses little controller for the microwave. There is a set of templates for it too. Do a search here on gs for the link to the templates , I am pretty sure I posted the link in Johnny powell's microwave thread. I would post it again, but I am on my phone.

yep all novations that support sysex work with the template for MW..

original ReMote series
ReMote SL
ReMote SL mkII

most often i see ppl pickup the original Remote 25, as its being the oldest and smallest, is also the cheapest novation to dedicate to MW.

u can also do it wiht Behringers but its not as practical/sexy etc.

With the novations can you use with just the midi connected rather than USB? Reason I say is that I've tried to put automap on my mac before and it crashed Logic so much I took it off.

I'd have no problem just using it install the microwave template and then un-installing it though, if that's what it took?

you can use both midi or usb to go into DAW, and midi out form DAW to microwave.

i mean you could go direct MIDI to MW, but if you intend to record some realtime tweaking of the MW paramters you have to go via DAW. and must say it sounds great having MW automated.. tweaked throut the track.., any waldorf actually. im using access controller for my MW, but Remote works equally well if not better for some things.

I have a remote zero version 1. It's hooked up to Logic via the USB cable .Then out to the Microwave on midi port 2. I downloaded he templates and installed them on patches 1-6 in the remote. It took a bit of playing with the settings to get it all up and running. Nothing to complex though. Now the microwave responds to the remote sysex and the sysex data comes up in logic as I change the parameters. I am quite impressed by how well it all works. You can use the Novation without going into logic too tho. Btw automap should not be crashing logic. Must be a problem in your settings.

I did see there was a programmers manual and a performers manual on the Waldorf site but couldn't see sysex data in there, I could've missed it though it wouldn't be the first time.

Since I have a Kore 2 already it'd be great to get that working with the Sysex data but I'm not entirely sure it's possible.

Novation sounds great though, does the SL 1 and 2 give you feedback on the parameters that you're changing as you alter them?

The sl 1 has 2 led display windows which show the parameter values, the value changes as you turn the knobs. This works for data going into the microwave or logic. It does Not change the values on the novation when the data is coming out of logic, although that may be possible too and I just have not sorted it out yet. The sl 2 versions of the Novation only provide 1display window so you lose out on some of the parameters displayed. Personally I would suggest the remote Zero ver 1.
I too have the manuals I think the sysex stuff is in the back few pages. I will check which one when I get home.

I could be wrong, but I think there may have been an addendum to the sysex for version 2 OS. Can't check now though.

I just checked the performance and programming manuals neither contains the info you are looking for bigbongo. Oli is correct, there is a addendum. Mine is for firmware 1.20. In the back of the booklet is the sysex chart. It's very extensive 9 pages. I dont have a scanner, so I am not sure how to give you the info. I guess you could dl the templates open them in automap and copy the sysex data from there. Or you could try to get it from somebody on the waldorf mailing list. Other suggestions?

Wow... that is very strange, I just bought a Remote SL this morning and was just this second about to ask on GS where I could find the MW template as I couldn't find it on the novation site... and there is your post telling me before I even asked... Dubtek71 you're psychic.

Thank you by the way!

. You're welcome. Enjoy!

I thought I had posted a link to it here, but I guess I did not because yesterday I received a Pm from another member that was looking for it. He couldn't find via google. Now it's easy to get to.

It all came through this morning, works really well and breaths a whole load of fun into this fantastic sounding machine, although I have the Remote 25SL so not sure if the template is exactly right.

Anyone know how to get the LFO to sweep the filter without sync/triggered by a key press? I can't find the parameter to control LFO mod amount on the filter.

3rd row down on the matrix bigbongo. you want to go into the oscillator/waves menu and also the envelopes/lfo's menu 2 collumns to the right of the osc/waves. You should be able to tie the lfo to the filter in there. Then use the remote sl to control the speed(page1 template) and also the shape of the lfo to on (page4) in the remote. I am not sure if this I'd able to be done without retriggering. Hmm....More research is needed... Good question.thumbsup

Sure Johnnypowell,

It has been months and months since I did it, but I should be able to help you. 1 dload the template(s).
2 open the remote editor
3 import the templates for the microwave (make sure you have all 6 imported)
Number them 1-6 or whatever slot numbers you want to use in the remote sl.
Make sure you are connected via USB
Use the bulk dump to transfer to the remote.
Its likely that at some point you will get a message that will say these templates were not created for this unit. Iirc you will click use anyway. It's not a problem. The templates should show up in the remote in the slots you set.

Personally I had to do it a couple times cause I kept wiping them off the remote. Once you get them into the remote you need to protect the memory. Look in the global menu and press the up key a couple times. Turn to protect on.
Hopefully that will help get you there. Like I said it's been more than 6 months since I did it last maybe even a year. It took a little poking around but it wasnt to hard to sort out. (keep in mind that I wasnt provided with any guidance in the matter either)

Oh there is one issue that I should mention. You have an mkII. That presents a bit of a problem as you only have one LCD window. The templates make use of 2 windows as they were created on an mkI. So you will actually only be able to see half of the parameters. All the right hand parameters will still be there you just won't be able to see the values displayed. A solution might be to create an addition 6 templates and copy the right side to the left side. Then you will have 12 half templates that display all the values rather than 6 where you can only see half of the psrameters.

Well that was longwinded and hopefully it all makes sense and I didn't miss any thing. I check back in the morning and see if it worked out.
D.

Connection problem?

Hi folks,

I just got a Waldorf MW1 and a Novation Remote 61 SL to control it. I tried to upload some templates to the SL but it didn't work. Well, I can play the Microwave's sounds with the SL keyboard, but the ReMote Editor won't send the templates. I use Midi Port 1, MemProt is off, SL is connected via USB. Although the Editor says: "template dump completed", the SL doesn't react at all. I did as the Novation website says but something must be wrong. Where's the mistake? Can someone help pls?

Welcome to GS Microwaver77,

Try using this:
s n o i z e : SysEx Librarian

Load the 6 templates into it and then send them to the Novation Remote. That should help.

Maybe I should wipe the Remote and reinstall the templates, and then post the details on how to here.

Thank you, Dubtek71. I forgot to mention that I use a PC, no Mac. Is there a PC version of the SysEx Librarian?

Can you not use an Ipad and touch osc or something? That would be cool

Nice idea. That could be another possible solution for control. I haven't tried it tho, so I cannot comment on whether or not it works, and how effective it is. I don't really see any reason why it should not work.
