I've finished the teaser I posted earlier, link below. Any feedback / comments are welcome, on SC also.
I like that track until it gets noisy. Once in a while as a climax noise is very fine. I'd say for this track: less is more.

Yeah that's a good disclaimer to get away with posting a full track, ha ha

That track has a good, deep, mellow vibe to it! Then that mad sound in a strange space enters without any word of warning. Crazy - I love it!

Great stuff.
Reminds me of my favorite stuff from the Midwest in the late 90's.
Rob Hood, Jay Denham, ect.

10 seconds are hard, I can't do it too
10 seconds are enough for a groove.
40-60 seconds are necessary to get a picture from the whole track.

Thanks for the comments and feedback, guys, and I guess I'm doing alright if I'm being likened to S.Brown and Rachmad. It wasn't intentional, but upon second listen I can hear what you're saying.

@ Lapsi: Yes, real 909. The other instrument is an Akai 3200XL. I took a short break in the studio from work and thought I'd play for a bit and listen to something different, and that was the result.

Thank you! That is just a Prophet '08 preset that I recorded to ask DSI about the little click tone that is audible with certain envelope settings

When I was messing around with the recording, I ended up throwing Ohmicide on it and distorting it to bits bringing out all the background noise and clicks which is al you hear. Try doing that with software, HA!

Well actually, DCAM can simulate the background noise of analog synthesizers and I'm sure there's other software instruments that have that option as well.

Here's a little something I did yesterday. Went more raw/old school.

A subwoofer can work wonders!

Thanks!

All the drums are ITB, from the samples I recorded.
Kick, snare are MFB-503. I forget the rest.

So, no analog kit really beyond what I used to make
the drum samples originally. I'm kind of lazy that way.
Once I'm ITB, I rarely go back out again. Tend to work
in sessions, recording takes... then later arranging, editing.

The synth/filter is analog. That'd be one of the best
filters ever, IMHO. Serge VQ-VCF.

It was a pass I recorded from the Serge Creature when
I owned one. Finally got around to putting some drums
underneath.

I'm usually the WET master, using effects to hide my lack
of musicality. This time I decided to stop fronting.

Thats the kit I was specifically reffering to! Cuts thru a mix like a laser. I'd love to get my hands on even a modest Serge set-up!

shop panels

That'd be the way to go then. It's a techno mono-synth
masterpiece.

There's a lot of growth you can do in Serge, debatable
to the end of days whether a complete rig is worth it.

But to get the filter and precision vcas, Creature.

It's not $1499 out the door though... you need a case +
power supply. So closer to $2k.

It's worth it just to experience it. Resale value holds up.
I flipped mine but I learned a lot in the process.

Here's something in the EARLY stages...
sitting on it, thinking of whether to put
the time in, where it can go.

Consider it like seeing film dailies.

Oh very Peter Gunn, you could add some lush synthesized brass if you pursued that angle

I'm hearing breaks and a bass player.

Really like the feedback parts. You've definitely captured a dark, edgy mood!

Whoa, this song scares the shit out of me. I mean aside from the fact that this type of techno is obviously ment to be heard while being in a "higher state of consciousness", all this triggers for me is a whole bunch of people, chewing straws, moving their bone cheeks over and over, swirling around their tongues, with big pupils making weird hand movements and periodically white light flashes in between red / pink light, filled with smoke in an otherwise dim lit basement club.

Well you see it that way because you concentrate more on the setting in which this type of song is played rather than the setting it creates..

For me I can listen in my chair (with headphones) and it takes me into a new and interesting dimension... and I feel it's very powerful because it creates this visual scape by itself using only it's frequencies and hypnotic but evolving composition.. at least for me...

Well it's sounding raw and oldschool because it's dry (no reverb etc).

Sounds good neverthelessthumbsup ...straight unaltered analog signals are really good sometimes especially when using a OTB path that usually is rich in timbre and texture ....

Anyway you can easily take it places by putting some insert channels loaded with weird fx and then mix and match until you get something both raw/oldschool and cooked/contemporary juggling between them with parallel processing and send values..stike

Keep abusing it dude. I am completely bored with the 909 sound but this type of abusing is just the thing what I like about it.. not the chessy patterns everyones using...

You actually make me want a real one tutt

But I'll save for the tempest as I feel it will not satisfy my demanding ego
