It's painted with color that makes it invisible, so Roginator might have some difficulties finding it in the studio.

Congratulations Roginator! It looks like the one that went for $17 or $18K on eBay back in October or November.. Wow, that is going to be expensive to ship to Europe, especially if you ship it by air!

Are you going to work on it yourself? If not, if I were you, I would get Kevin Lightner to work on it before you ship it to Europe. He is the man when it comes to working on Moog modulars, he has all the original spare parts, and he knows them inside out. Plus he is really reasonable with pricing! He is actually working on my System 55A at the moment and he is doing a full restore at a very reasonable price. PM me if you want to know more.

the memorymoog can sound HUGE and is definitely great for bass (and everything else), but i feel the minimoog tuning is more stable and response is tighter, making it a somewhat better bass machine overall.
as for moog modulars, they sound amazing.

It's funny, I am getting a moon modular m569 installed in my moog 55 with the input and output expander. This sequencer is great! You won't be disappointed.

Congratulations on the Neve compressors too. I have never heard them, but if they are sounding anywhere near as good as a 1073 preamp sounds, they might be mighty compressors.

Also a Memorymoog owner ... tho mine is having a last ditch attempt at life and is with a tech... and has been for months

Memorymoogs are immense sounding. I remember a bass patch Id' made which was quite plucky ... but using unison mode, so much guts and punch. No way a Mini could replicate.

yep i realized that moon sequencer is cheaper and far usable than original moog !! so........

OT:I have Neve 1073 " and they are not best to my ears .. I have and use better BUT !!!!" yes they are really good preamps

just tried 2254e.. maybe a bit too noisy (need recapping and recalibration I believe ) its in original consition so caps might be dry .. BUT SOUND is woooooooohhhhhhhhooooooooooooooooooooo

Ill do more tests later today !

Are you sure this is your last modular purchase? I think that cabinet is screaming for a dual 960 /961/962 sequencer compliment from Synthesizers.com. It would looks so nice right on top.

Just sayin'...

That choice between MM and Mini was a crossroads that I faced years ago, and it wasn't easy.

MM has the best bass i've ever heard, and i've heard a lot on early 80s records and then in person. Maybe a Prophet 10 gets you to similar territory, not sure. My Voyetra 8 from the same era had a similarly big/industrial feel to the MM both in terms of looks and sound, but at the end of the day the Moogs still win when it comes to bass.

I decided to sell my new-from-Moog MM pluses because of other considerations than bass that included the fact that I felt that a Mini and/or Source (which as someone correctly said is absolutely the closest to MM) provided many of the same (though not all) qualities without the cons of a MM. Those included clumsy midi and occasional though not overwhelming maintenance issues that aren't experienced with simple monos. In addition, aside from the outrageous bass I didn't feel that the MM provided any unique polyphonic advantages that couldn't be covered by other smaller, more reliable and flexible alternatives.

Thus the MMs became expendable even though I've believed from day one in the early 80s that nothing stacks up to it when it comes to bass. A Mini and Source especially are closest, though still different.

Same here as far as reliability is concerned. You probably need a bit of luck not to get a lemon, but mine has been going strong for the last two years. I am crossing my fingers though, you never know what is going to happen..

i fear that day when i fire up the poly and it does unexpected things. because it IS going to happen someday. it just is. that's how certain moog's operate.

i brought some new life back into it with a n.o.s. Moog psu from a keyboard version after i blew out the crappy faratron supply from my synthesizer version trying to fix it. but she still has some things wrong. 2 dead keys and some l.e.d.s. that don't light. small stupid things. there's another problem going on with it but i can't pin down what the hell is happening. something with the preset switching in it is just wonky, and it doesn't happen all the time.

i hate that. because when i get the tech to look at it you know it won't do it.

MMs aren't that much more trouble than other vintage synths when common sense is exercised. Either buy one already stable and working well or have the patience to get one 100% back to good order rather than addressing various ailments in half-assed fashion. Then keep it inside and treat it nicely. Problems at that point should be minimal.

Minimoog Model vs. Memorymoog

Greetings,

I have a chance to trade in my Model D along with some extra cash for an MM. They both have amazing sounds, but I cannot help to think that the MM is more versatile because it is polyphonic. I also have a Polymoog that goes in and out and am not sure it comes even close to the MM.

Let's hear it, if you had a choice and can pick only one.. Mini or MM?

Thanks for your help

I bought a Memorymoog (w Kention midi) with only 2 voices tuning few weeks back as its was VERY cheap - sent it straight to my tech, all crappy cheap connectors and wiring is being replaced, aftertouch added, PSU recapped and a load of other servicing.

Idea was I was gonna sell it on - got a feeling I might like it too much though, will have to see.

I paid more than that, £1100 is a steal - in a any condition (as long as its still fixable obviously).

But I made sure I would have a decent profit margin if sold.
