Thread Starter | E-mu E3xp vs E4xt
I recently bought a E3XP Turbo with the sound library for $100.00. I have an E4XT Ultra, so naturally I wanted to compare how they stack up to each other. This was just a quick and dirty comparison. I programmed the same sound in each one, tweaked the filter and recorded them. Have a listen. |

I had a E-mu E3xp. That thing is a beast. It has that sound, if you know what I mean.

The E4Xt ultra is easier to work with and has a lot more options. If I had to choose one, I would go with the E4XT. That said, I was blown away at how nice the E3XP sounds. Personally I like the sound of the E3XP more than the E4XT. The E3XP was around the 5k price point back in 1993. They didn't change the OS much so I think most of the R&D was spent on the sound. The ESI range has basically the same os but does not sound like this. The analog stages and converters really do shine on this unit. I plan on using it mainly as a playback synth. For the money it's a deal! |

Any E4 can load E3 sounds and it's a much more powerful machine, so, why bother with the older one?

Isn't E3 analog filters (last ever, emulator/emax/emu-sampler unit with analog filters), and E4 digital?

Thread Starter | The E3XP is all digital. The original E3 had analog filters. I just think the analog stages and the converters sound really nice. For a digital filter it's pretty awesome.
