HD 600 and 650 are both almost in the same pricearea than Shure 940 and Beyerdynamic Pro 880, so they would also be an option The point is that i try to figure out which cans are the most suitable for my demands, and that seems to be a real challenge, especially because I cant compare them. One difference is of course, that the Shure 940 has only 42Ohms, while the other candidates have 250 or 300. But I don't know how much that effects on the sound. |

most "pro" head sets are 250ohm and up. All though louder and more compatible, smaller values usually offer less sonic dimension.

Ok thanks for the info. I decided to order the Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro with 250 Ohms, because they were cheaper yesterday(about 50€ = 70$) and almost all the reviews report that those cans are very good(also the wearing comfort) I hope I made the right decision and hopefully they work well with my audio-interface. |

I recently aquired a pair of AKG 240 headphones (the older model). Haven't had the chance to put them through serious use yet, but compared to my previous headphones (Sennheiser HD251), the transient response is very impressive! 600 ohms though, so I'll need to invest in a headphone amp..

headsets are like monitors, theres no one set that does everything perfect(maybe those <1k Stax, Senn hd800), i and like many im sure have gone through a few or many sets before sticking to anyone. Even now i occasionally switch between 880's analytical open sound and hd25mk2 direct dj friendly sound . Either way you'll be happy with the 880's, they're very comfortable and sound great after a short break-in period. Listen to as much music on them as you can, learn them, and maybe they'll fulfill all your requirements. |

one thing i never see mentioned about HD600s but has ben a problem for me is that while they go down very low, its still quite easy to blow the drivers on them. you end up with rattling headphones. it's very distracting and i've done it twice now. really quite costly.

that's odd. is it possible you have an impedance mismatch between the phones and preamp driving them that's maybe pushing them too hard? Quote:

You should check out the Focusrite VRM Box as well. I haven't used it myself yet but I've heard a lot of good reviews from people that have used it and swear by it.

Thanks for info, indeed i expect a lot from these cans. The VRM Box costs 100€, too much for me at the moment. i think i need that money rather for a proper soundcard.

They are very comfy, but can seem a bit sterile since they are so flat. And can seem kinda bass light, yet when you feed it a geniunely bassy source it will produce the low lows. I guess it doesn't flatter the bass end unlike a lot of cans. When I have something subby like some FM or analog synth patches, then it will rattle your head! |

I can say the same about the 880's. They are very very neutral which is exactly what you want. I paired mine with the Beyerdynamic A1 headphone amp and its a dream. I'll be picking up some 600 ohms in the future. The baSs as mentioned is light hearted it seems at first but you learn to analyze the phones and that's why they're so precise. |

AT M50s are nice, the faux leather makes my ears sweat though . Ive got some DT990s amd they're ok, i'd advise going for the 880s if your serious about it though, big difference. cant comment on the akgs but the cheaper end of theyre stuff didn't impress me. I also liked the krk 8400s, sound was ok but they were proper comfortable. |
