Electronic Drum Synth VST

I'm looking for a good Electronic Drum Synth (VST) that's fairly easy to use (anywhere from free on up.....). Somthing that's versatile in most genre's .
What do you guys recommend?

Thanks,
SW

Drumaxx is shockingly good if you can get over the brand.

I'm a big fan of AudioDamage Tattoo:

Audio Damage :: Tattoo

(good for the Rolandy sounds and more plus I really like the step sequencer and use it to drive Kontakt sometimes as well)

also Axon (a bit stranger, FM percussion/synth)

Audio Damage :: Axon

That looks very interesting, how do you think it compares with the other drum synths (Waldorf Attack, D16 808 and 909 emulators, microtonic, ADM etc)? I make house and trance music mostly so I'm looking for kicks often used in these genres. I'm only really looking for synthesizing kickdrums.

Also, what makes Rob Papen's punch better than the drum synths I just mentioned?

Thank for the help!

Well, the D16 plugs are specific emulations of the XOXs... they do that job absolutely outstandingly... but are one-trick-ponies in a sense.

I've not worked with ADM or Attack... but heard good things about both.

Microtonic is great... but very modern & clean. This might be great for you if you are making trance.

Drumaxx has a certain dirtiness about it that I like.

I discovered Drumaxx via this thread, which has some relevant chatter in it:
Any decent software drum SYNTH that makes analogue(ish) techno sounds??

IS there a sense to have hardware drum synths , mainly for progressive trance kick drum synthesizing?

I'm interested in tight kicks, not oldschool too siny or just what are 1980 kicks.

If someone can advise software ones I can try at first approach- much appreciated. Gona try Rob Pappen-punch today.

Drumaxx was shockingly buggy on OSX when it was released, to the point of being rather unusable - at least in Live. Any improvements on this front?

I just came across Sonicsidekick Extreme Drum Synth
I'm impressed! Finally something that can do the sounds I want
http://www.sonicsidekick.com/drumsynth/index.php

It's pretty extreme and complex like it's name
Has patch genetics for variations and jitter for more random organic sound
It's got that raw rich sound that not many other VST can match

V2 out in a few months from what I read at KVR, new interface, and sample playback etc

Nice drum synth. It can even be used as standard synth.

Also, the Waldorf Edition comes with a great emulation of the PPG Wave 2.3. and it also includes the D-Pole filter plugin.

I've bought Tremor and I love it. Not "easy" to program thought, but really interesting.
