Monotron Mods

Just completed the mod for the Monotron to have CV/Gate/Cutoff mod inputs.

This makes the Monotron 100% musically useful. Sounds great being sequenced by the 101 =o]

Din Sync: How to modify a Korg Monotron

This is where i got it from. I didn't actually build the box, it was sent to me. I had to fit it all in that little ass Monotron case. Which was hard to do!

I still don't get why they didn't just have those built into the unit to start with.

What would be the extra production costs? Like £1 or something?

Word up man... maybe they're just testing the waters, or maybe not; you never know with these big companies.

Korg actually designed the monotron to be easily modded. The circuit board even has important mod points labeled.

thumbsup!

add 1 op amp and you've got pulse/square wave on the vco. add 2 op amps and you've got triangle wave. add a pot and you've got vco->vcf modulation. it's so strange that the monotron is 10$ away from being a full awesome ridiculously inexpensive mono synth.

i love the monotron to death, but they got 90% of the way there. why not go the extra 10% and dominate the entry level synth market?

instead they add a freaking sequencer on that weird ass mono tribe thing? it's like they added everything nobody wanted (a drum machine, wtf?) and skipped all the obvious things that the monotron is aching and begging for. hey korg. it's called midi/cv. look it up.

gotta love those awesome crazy japanese.

could you explain how to get to a pulse/sq or triangle wave on the monotron? Is there an easy mod? Also on my duo I see a patch for saw1 and saw2, is there a mod to switch to those instead of the square? Thanks!

If you're converting wavetypes, you're not just soldering a new wire at a couple of points anymore, you're implementing your own nontrivial additions to the circuit. Here's an example of getting PWM on a Monotron Delay:

Korg Monotron Delay Mods - Square and Pulse Wave

Here's a YouTube video of someone soldering leads to the different oscillator contact points in the duo:

Apparently, you can run all the different oscillator connection points out to a mixer (or for that matter, to jacks to hook into a modular system), and then run whatever mix of oscillators you want back in through aux in to go through the filter. I haven't actually seen seen this work myself, but from what I can tell, it should work.
