| Lives for gear | Lemur – Liine Seems despite naysayers, I was able to see the future on this pretty accurately. Lemur for iPad now out. Plus now in late 2011 we're seeing hundreds and thousands of musicians using the iPad to control all sorts of live music things successfully. Doesn't mean the iPad is more "road worthy" now, but you can buy 6 iPads for the price of a Lemur.

Good for Lemur. Its too bad that the iPad crashed their hardware market, but its good to see they came back with it in software form.

Damn, you're good - you predicted this 15 months ago. Now, can you tell if and when there will be a sale on the Lemur app?

some of the opinions expressed in this thread ![]() when Apple announced the iPad, the Lemur was the first thing that came to mind and I'm a little surprised that it's taken them this long to release an app. Others obviously had the same thought, which would be why we presently have apps like TouchOSC and TouchAble, both of which now have an established user base, which could have been JazzMutant's from the start. I can only assume that they were feeling a little butthurt that their several thousand dollar dedicated device was instantly rendered virtually pointless. Given many of the comments here, I assume some GS'ers were feeling the same.

Not sure how actually interesting is to claim nostradamus-ish statements. The truth (fact) is that the real losers are those naysayers who lived in denial and were unable or incapable or simply could not understand and leverage the benefits and usefulness of a multi-touch screen controller such as the original Lemur (the real pioneer) and missed out since... since... since... 2004? Pioneering does matter, not only as developer but also as supporter of new technologies. It requires vision from both. However, for the naysayers maybe it's normal to feel down and left out for so long (hence the intense hating) or to have missed out for nearly 10 years. It's a bitter truth, but hey, it's the truth nonetheless. not saying you are one of those btw Fortunately, they can now catch up for 50 dollars (and an iPad), but, ooops... forgot to mention, there's the object oriented programming required to actually achieve something other than a moving knob. I am sure the few pioneer seasoned Lemur users, experienced on this programming and plattform won't mind to give a hand to newbies. .

Naysayers and a government subsidized rampaging industry are a danger to entreprenurship and innovation. A small company in Bordeaux, obviously, can easily be eaten up by a mega huge ass corporation like Cr-Apple. I obviously am an early JM Lemur adopter and supporter. It did hurt to see it consumed by inneficient marketing distribution and all the above, but NOTHING can take away those 8 years of true enjoyment, seeing the boundaries yourself first-hand. Consistently though, I already have the iPad version, and I am happy to report that NOTHING is lost or seems that will be lost. All my templates were loaded and worked in the iPad version. The programming stays basically the same. Axel IS a key part of the Liine team AND therefore, the LEMUR is totally alive and will keep evolving. All the experience and knowledge gathered still IS a good investment. Again, the porting seems to have been flawless so far. Also worth noting is that the original Lemur is still way more comfortable in terms of ergonomics. There's the annoyance of the iPad having to be connected for long sessions so using two or more side by side is ruined because of the ugly white cable in the way (horizontally). One good thing is the faster processing in the iPad. I think I am keeping two of my three Lemurs along with my two iPads. Yeah, the original Lemur still has many ergomic advantages whether in the studio or live. | |

There some interesting things happening with iPad that have not been mentioned here. First new iPad is dual core, I think the previous one was too, but definetly the first one was not. That opens up possibilities of ipad being used as a fairly powerful synth. The even more interesting thing that first appears with this new version is the quad core graphic processor. Now why a quad core gpu should consern a music / sound person. Generally it should not but if the quad core implements anything like CUDA where the hardware acceleration is not focused just on graphics but any kind of pararrel processing that could mean a huge boost in sound abilities of ipad. Music and graphics mathematically share alot of common ground so maybe we will see a big turn of the ipad towards serious music and sound production or even using ipad exclusively for music and sound generation. Things certainly are moving forward, and iPad is here to stay.

Just wanna say I picked up the new iPad on launch day and it's pretty spiffy. I also have a first gen and the difference is like night and day. Using it with TouchABLE...I can also link 2 ipads together as well. It's becoming a fairly competent device for different kinds of creation.
