I tried shirts and towels, but they let through and collected dust themselves, so they needed regular washing...
Now I have switched to black trash bags, the best solution so far. They don't let through dust, are easy to clean (just wipe it with a damp cloth) or can be disposed of, and I can quickly craft custom fit covers for all my gear.

Hmm... now I'm wondering if using trash bags as covers could cause static electricity problems... do you think I should worry about it?
If yes, I would have to find yet another solution...

Thomann covers for keys, white plastic bags for tabletop things. I'm dreaming of a giant breadbox-like thing with a rolltop where I could stash my BCR2000, mixer and laptop so they would be always easily available but protected from dust and visitors.

All dust covers for me. even my rack gear. I hate dusting and I hate having dusty equipment. It sends me the wrong message when I'm trying to be creative.

I find that protecting your hard earned money investment is a smart thing to do. Many synths with sliders are easily damaged by dust and are expensive to repair.
Almost all my studio gear is vintage analog that I have spent a lot of time finding not to mention spending thousands of dollars on it, so you bet I will keep them with covers.

I found that the easiest method for me was to go to a local fabric store, they usually have tons of sales on fabrics. I found some great silky black fabrics that were on sale, I bought about 8 yards for about $10.00 and I was able to cut it and cover all my synths.
As far as dusting I use a Dyson. I also purchased there special Soft Dusting Brush and it does wonders for removing all the dust. I don't really like the dusters because all they do is spread the dust around.
Essentially I believe that protecting my Synths will keep them working better longer.

Love the silky black fabric idea Jebeq. Do you have a photo of your set up you could share. I wonder what all that fabric looks like when you walk in your space.. or when only using part of your gear.

Well said! While many on this board are well into the functional design of their space, sometimes I feel that musicians can be the worst creative people when it comes to creating a space that is inspiring. Sending the right message to yourself is important.

I'm building keyboard racks (see this thread) that will hopefully prevent a build up of dust on my valuable sinths.
