mixing engineer or mastering professional

so I have been producing house music for a while now but it seems like my final masters are never as tight and clean as other big name producers, Im willing to pay for someone to try to spice a project of mine up. But how do i tell if i need someone the help out the mix, or just someone to master it? also what is the price difference between the both?

Post a track at GS and people can give you feedback, unless you want to pay someone to engineer for you, which can be anything from £100 upwards then there are no shortcuts other than learning.. yeah its a bummer

Unless you are already a highly successful artist & guaranteed to sell shedloads of your track, it will most likely not be financially viable to have that much external work put in (of course you could just throw money at it... but...), in the long run you are much better off just learning to do it properly yourself.

Post some tracks here & get some feedback.

We offer both, and kinda have a listen and advise what i think is gonna be best for the track, from a Master to a a Quick stem mix and master...or getting you in for a session...yeah its really a rolling thing where you work with your chosen guy mate....

"tight and clean" are not adjectives I associate with house music. At least not with good house music.

To me, a good house track is less about mixing and mastering than style, character, interesting musical ideas etc. In fact, polishing a track to a textbook standard often makes it a lot less interesting.

That's why I don't worry about it too much myself. As long as the low freq's are in acceptable shape for clubs and the highs don't wreck your ears.

I know this approach is not the most popular one here in GS's.

Just my 2c...

this is true its the flaws in music that make it beautiful, its also the flaws in life which make that beautiful...perfect is ugly.

OP, I understand the problem perfectly. I think it's worth it chipping in some cash to have someone better than you take on these duties.

I suggest you try to make contact and/or "advertise" with sound processing tutoring institutions (or "schools" if you prefer). Students are usually cheaper and quite motivated and both parties take value from it. They usually have access to great processing gear.

In short, students can be exploited

Unless you want to be spending a lot of cash each release, I would say practice, practice, practice and read books regarding mixing & mastering.

Here is a good book :-

Sample Magic: Secrets of House Music Production Book - Learn Production Secrets of House, Techno, Electro, Minimal With Logic, Ableton, Cubase

Its also good to run your favorite tracks through a Real Time Analyzer, make note of what you see and compare it to your own productions.

Also if you haven't already, make sure your room acoustics are upto scratch, otherwise it will be very hard for you to get a good mix that translates well.

Good Luck thumbsup
