If its one synth you have to choose then maybe go for more than a Mono, that way you have polyphony on your side for chords and stabs, I use a few VA's I really like the AN1x I can do a lot with that alone..I am sure someone will be able to put you on the right track if you have an idea of budget and what sounds you want to create. KS by Novation is another good one and both the AN and KS can be found for under on £200 on ebay. MicroKorg is another but the matrix is an arse to use.

I like the hands on approach to Virtual Analogs but I think you'll find a fair amount of tech house producers are ITB.

Any good VA hardware will do the trick for various forms of house. Personally, I'd suggest the Virus, but the Nord Leads, Waldorfs, older Novations, etc. will do the trick. The Poly Evolver is a great synth, but keep in mind that it's only got 4-voices, which may be an issue if you use any complex chords.

Alterntatively, depending on the style of house that you're into, you may want to consider something with good sample-based synth capabilities for house pianos, EPs, brass, strings, etc., such as the Kurzweil PC-series, Fantoms, Motifs, Triton/M50s, etc. Personally, I'd go for the Kurzweil PC-series because its sample-based sounds are incredible, and its VA engine (VAST) is incredible for all your more conventional synthesis needs.

The OP didn't mention any monos - he asked specifically about the Virus and Poly Evolver....I'm confused.

No need to be confused; people can write house tracks on monos and polys we both know that, I was just highlighting that if you only have one choice then a poly is a good way to go. Or come to think of it buy a novation/nord etc and get a Mopho all for under £500.

My reason for saying that is exactly what you posted; when did he ask about Romplers? personally I would say buy Kontakt and save yourself the money.. but there you go that's my opinion and like wise with your offering.

Are you also using any soft synths? Do you already own some hardware? It might help to know what other forms of synthesis you have covered.

I think FM can be really good for house. Of course FM synthesis is not as straight forward as some other forms, but can sound really good, and interesting. FM8 may be easier than some hardware, for getting started. There are several cheap options for older FM hardware. You may like to consider going for those with 12 bit converters, for a bit of extra texture.

Waldorf Blofeld can also sound very good for house vibes. Pretty versatile, and good value for money used. I think still a bit buggy though.

Anyway, Virus is very versatile too, can sound fantastic. Never owned one though. Rather enjoyable to demo though.

Never had the pleasure of an Evolver either.

No argument here! It was just the way your response was worded, which seemingly implied that you thought the OP was asking about monosynths. I guess I just misinterpreted it.
