Any time you want to listen to a track online you have to find it, download at least part of it, and then press "play". If you want to skip ahead quickly, well, I haven't found an online player that really does that well yet. Plus, all of the online music stores (Amazon, iTunes, Beatport, etc) have the presentation all wrong IMO -- you have to "drill down" too much to hear any single track, and thus trying to compare a bunch of tracks from different artists is a major pain. By comparison once a turntable is spinning all you have to do is plop on a record, drop the needle in a few places, flip it and then do the same thing on the other side. You can keep the platter spinning while you switch records, and your "random access" time is negligible. All around the process "flows" much better. Eventually the online music marketing world will catch up, but until then vinyl is my preferred method for previewing tracks. | |
