Some years ago when I had my studio in Atlanta, a partner and I had a studio B downstairs called "The Analog Playpen." The collection between the two if us (but more of his) got pretty crazy. Some of the highlights included:

and a whole bunch of other things, old and new, keyboard and rack alike. That's maybe 1/3 of the list above. My collection has since thinned considerably, as has my friend's. Most of my old analog/electromechanical stuff is gone apart from a moog source, a couple wurlis, and a JX10, and I've got a fair collection of current and not quite current digital pieces to do the utilitarian work. Those analog days sure were fun, but not terribly practical!

Well...it is by far the most capable synth out there. It is stable, no tuning problems (except that it takes over three minutes to tune!) and the software is good. The sound is also very good, but it doesn't have the "edge" that an old Minimoog or a SEM has, but it's good enough for almost everything anyway.

What I don't like too much is the user interface. It looks tempting with all these knobs and buttons but to me they don't do too much good. If you want to create sounds quickly this is definitely not the synth for you. If you want to dig half-deep into its architecture it might be worth it, but if you want to dig really, really deep it's not that good either. Then you'll end up browsing menus, watching displays, and turning knobs with the most stupid resolution I've seen.

Well, most of my synths have had some issues, but since I fix them myself I don't consider it a big problem.

When it comes to parts, well, it always seems to work out somehow. Most parts are still available and some synths are actually worth more when you just sell the parts. I believe the problem is worse with cheaper synths. No one pays $250 to fix a synth worth $200, but $250 is not a big problem if the synth is worth $2.000.

Yes, I have the sequencer too. I like System 100 a lot. I think the patch points are much more wisely chosen on System 100 than on MS-20 for instance. As a bonus it looks like it's made during WW2.

Just curious about one thing, I own a TR-909 but looking for a 606 to go along with it. On the 909, there is only DIN SYNC In. But on the 606 there is In and Out.

So you would have to use the 606 as the SYNC Master. But if you do that, can the 909 still run in "External Instrument mode" and play its own drums sounds, and remain in sync with the 606 on playback?

Thanks in advace, I am just curious as I have only heard a 606, and I assume it would work with the 909 like this.

Dammit! Many years ago when I was a poor intern working between a couple studios, I was offered the opportunity to purchase a near mint Prophet T8 that was used by The Thompson Twins. By today's standards, the price was cheap, but at the time, I couldn't quite muster the scratch.

That's OK, I found a Yamaha CS-80 for $400 a couple years later. I've since sold it, but *holy shit* that thing was a brute.

The Marion is one of my favorite synths. Aside from the sneaky form factor (1U poly analog, anyone?) it has rich, high resolution oscillators (variable waveform DCOs that sound more like mid-80s VCOs to me), deeply interesting filters and a tremendous mod matrix.

The MSR-2 is kind of my secret weapon, a synth that I can enjoyably program for hours. Too bad it didn't sell well and return Tom Oberheim to the status and economic success he's deserved all along.

Any other Marion MSR-2 or ProSynth users around GS?
