You may want to adjust those prices up somewhat. You seem to be selling this gear way too cheaply!!!

I am willing to sell my owned-from-new and almost-fully-functional Yamaha DX21 for a mere $2500. I will also throw in an almost unused Yamah FB-01 for $1000 if you take both.

According to some arbitrary arithmetic done by a nonexistent third party, the value of synthesizers doubles every year after they are discontinued. This is irrefutable fact. Therefore I am offering a killer deal on my Virus KC - it's really worth about $50,000 but I'm willing to part with it for $25,000.

Hurry it won't last long!

BTW it's actually all analog, all that VA talk is a conspiracy.

Just seen this Prophet 5 going for $4,999.99 and it doesn't even work.

To quote the seller...'
This synth powers on but does not produce sound - probably needs service'.

You don't say

The bidding says a lot about the kind of person who wants to prance around with a keytar strapped on.

It's not the sellers who are on crack, but the people buying it.

$500 start bid for something nice.

$1000 start bid for something exceptional.

If they end up with 20K good luck to them.

That's the concept of an auction.

To those who think the world owes them something just because they have something that might be desirable / rare. fuuck

Not nearly as crazy as most stuff in this thread, but I did see a guy try to sell a Virus KB in moderate condition for $1500 starting bid. This was three KCs all going for around 700-800 at the moment and a TI hovering at 1300 or so.

It didn't sell. Wasn't relisted either.

Is it this one? eBay.ie: Access Virus KB Virt Analog KC TI A B jp8000 Top Sound! (item 260555455974 end time 19-May-10 17:05:28 BST)

Not quite $1,500.00 dollars. 929.00 euros (about $1,255.00). Its been relisted. I can't see anyone buying it since I've seen kCs and Indigo IIs sell for alot less in the past few months.

That's a different one, it was some guy in the US.

That one isn't much better though. The KB seems to sell for around 600-700 nowadays, so he'll have to come down a lot...

For real. Case in point: heres a TI Keyboard that sold for $1275.00.

http://url=http://cgi.ebay.ie/ws/eBa...#ht_500wt_1182

I think the winner got quite a decent price for it but you know something is up when people are listing Virus Bs for roughly the same price on account of the fact that they are old and discontinued. I guess to some folks that means vintage. I only used a TI once and I'd say with a vB you get about 50% of the sound design capability of a TI, not including the nice extras you get in the later OS updates like decent distortion curves. I don't rate the built in distortion on a vB because it sounds like ASS.

I paid about 800 for a KC myself in mint condition, I don't think I would've been willing to go too much higher, why pay TI used prices and not just get a TI? Access has a linear model for their synthesizers, it's not like buying an old Waldorf Pulse instead of a Blofeld or something like that...

Whole point of buying old synth is to buy it cheap and to do whole work on it. There is no such thing as old synth in ideal condition on Ebay, even if it is functionally OK, they have some hidden flaws that will emerge soon.
It's normal to spend 500-1000 $ for good servicing of Prophet5 or Oberheim etc. Deeper overhaul goes to 1500 $ (factoring in some rare chips etc.).
Classic synths are demanding beasts and although I have half a dozen of them together with some new, I never suggest to spend, before they really understand consequences.
Guitars and mics are different things (well tubes might be problem) with collecting approach in mind.

I'll say. I bought an Oberheim Xpander about a year ago and it kind of always was slow to reach stable tuning but in the past few months its been taking hours to warm up and even then the 3rd and 4th VCO drift out by as much as a whole tone in a matter of minutes. After 2 or 3 hours its ok but a couple of weeks ago the 4th VCF died so now I have a 5 voice Xpander that takes forever to tune. In its current state its not very usable since I get home from work at 7:30pm. By the time I eat, shower and wait for the Xpander to reach stable tuning its bed time.

I haven't got a quote on the repairs yet but I know its gonna be expensive and I can't afford it right now. I guess its to be expected at some point. Its only a year younger than I am and I'm starting to get creaky bones...

Let's hope that you don't get out of tune too!

I have given up on my XPander. That thing spend more time at the repair shop than in the studio.

Not only the prices but also some eBai auction descriptions make me

Currently eBai (UK) is being blessed with an ultra rare Yamaha CS2x MINT condition (with 3 knobs missing)

Ha. OK you win.

It deserves mentioning multiple times though.

So far, the best example of ebaycrackness.

Even at the 33% price drop.

And it is one of the most reliable vintage synths.
Memorymoog is thousand times worse in that respect and people pay over 3k for dead units and over 4k for 'synth switches on and makes sound' condition what is IMO total madness.
