A fully serviced V8 Rev 4 sold last November on ebay for $5400 to a buyer in the UK.
Same seller who posted in the Gearslutz classified below:
http://www.gearslutz.com/board/gears...idi-synth.html

Also, i sold one fully serviced V8 Rev4 without VPK5 for $5000 last year to a gearslutz member.

Voyetra's are phenomenal midi polysynth and highly sought after, and you know it (obviously). Especially Rev4's since there aren't so many of them.

I do agree.. they are immense.

Worth it, IMHO.

However this auction says a lot. It means that some people are willing to pay a lot of money for Voyetra's regardless of knowing which revision they are, guaranty of its working condition or if they have been recently serviced and brought back to spec.

With regards to your ebay description, I would say that the Voyetra 8 is in a different league from the Jupiter 8. The V8's contemporaries are what some people call the "second wave" of analog synthesizers such as the Oberheim Xpander, Roland MKS-80, Rhodes Chroma, Sequential T8, etc. All of these gain keyboard velocity but do so at the expense of losing the more desirable hardware envelopes that the earlier "first wave" of analogs had (such as JP8, P5, Oberheim OB series, etc.). A well rounded collection will have choices from both these groups, and the V8 would probably be my first pick from that group (I do in fact have a rev 4, although it's waning). Having said that, there is one major issue with the Voyetra 8 in general. There is only one person on earth that services it, the schematics are all solely in his head and do not exist on paper, he's nearing retirement, and it's unlikely or perhaps even infeasible that his knowledge will be passed on to any one else.....

Give me the finger all you want, but we pull ridiculous postings without having any idea who it is... So, don't get all made at me because YOU are embarrassed.

Yes, I owned a Voyetra 8 and liked it, but not stupid enough to buy one for $5k+ (And just because some sucker paid that once somewhere, doesn't make it right)

Don't be pissed at me. Ain't my listing.

But, you know what, the BEST post will be when you sell it! (I hope you do man, I really do!)

Amen!

There's a point where the price and the value don't match... we are well in danger of being like those freak audio-files who pay $10 grand for some Gold-plated RCA cable

Time to clear up a long standing internet myth (with the help of google of course).

The gentleman in NYC (Peter Lanzilotta Doubletake Sound) is the main/only service person, but have you seen Joan's site?

From a tech point of view, there's enough info to do a decent job troubleshooting most issues and getting the unit calibrated now.

As a former owner, the combination of the CEM 3340 oscillators and SSM 2044 filters was awesome indeed. Playing sounds on it reminded me of a "better" MKS-80.

The UI sucked worse than any FM synth. It was bad enough that you just had 2 pairs of 2 digit LED displays, but when they overload front panel knobs and buttons and require you to have the manual on hand (or memorize 6 or 7 pages of mappings), it ends up being a preset synth for most people.

IMHO that's why it's not in the same league as Jupiter-8's, Matrix 12's, etc. The UI takes it down a peg (or two).

That is the absolute truth and why I sold mine. I do love the sound, but it just wasn't enough to keep (although I miss from time to time)

Also: David White also can fix. "Analog Keys" in Cambridge Mass.

So, also; enough with the rarity, can't get 'em fixed myth.

So, a rare great sounding synth that's a pig to use so is effectively a patch machine and if it breaks is pretty much a journey into the unknown.

Hmm. I'll offer $500

If it was your only synth (or your main synth) and you had lots of time to dedicate to it, you might eventually learn it all, but it's a feat of memorization for sure (or keeping the manual right by it). Most folks have multiple hard and soft synths and wouldn't have the time and energy to spend on it.

The allure is that it does have an awesome sound. Once you hear it, you think its within your power to master it. If you do, it could be very rewarding.

Yes, I'm aware of Joan's site and her posts on Analogue Heaven through the years. Here's a point of observation regarding that. She's had the Voyetra 8 for ten years and has an advanced degree in electrical engineering, yet her Voyetra 8 is always "currently under restoration"...

i agree.. some ebay sellers really are on crack... but sometimes another crackhead comes along and together they fix what ails them.

most times though i think its just angry, under-funded synth addicts complaining. a lot of those "over-priced" synths sell for their inflated prices... but then the seller isn't on crack... he's a greedy ****.... right.

Holy crap - that takes some special effort to destroy a synth so completely. I mean did it get used at a tank firing range as either a target or projectile? And it got 33 bids up to $1275!

Wow yuck.. even a working quadra I wouldn't touch. looks like it was dragged behind a bus! Apparently it's just as feeble as the memorymoog; somebody has a lot of work to do.

Of course you can! ... There's always some idiot who will buy what you're selling.

A Moog for $15k? Sure!
A Jupiter 8 for $10k? No prob!
A Voyetra for $5.3k? Hell yeah!

Not eBay but equally bonkers.

Someone on a local classified ads board actually thinks he can get the equivalent of $1900 for an Ensoniq TS10.

Pricing ebay synths is big waste of time. If I see a synth I think is a good price, not what they are going for, I will consider it. Otherwise leave me out of the ebay game.

The cheapies are the best anyways.
