Assigning the VIRUS TI Arp to external MIDI sounds

I want to use the arpeggiater from my Virus TI to trigger external MIDI sound sources.

What are the TI settings and what is the MIDI cable chain?

Is this possible?

THANK YOU TI EXPERTS thumbsup

AFAIK the Virus TI arp is not transmittable via MIDI.

I was hoping I could send the MIDI THRU cable from the TI to the MIDI IN on another device and then set one of the TI Total Control channels to External MIDI OUT (or something like that) and then the arp would trigger the external device I sent the MIDI cable too.

OR

What if we reversed the signal flow and sent the audio out from the sound source into the TI audio IN? Would the TI only process the audio in regards to the onboard TI FX or would the arp for that audio IN channel apply the timing and pattern adjustments?

Read the manual, the Virus does send out Midi data for the ARP just fine, you just have to enable it in the midi menus to send ARP data to ON. to those who said no, why even reply if you don't know? LMAO

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Arp Note Send
Off, On: Specifies whether the notes created by the arpeggiator will be sent to the MIDI output instead of the
original played notes.

Here's the manual:

There was only one person who said no and that was me, and I did preface it with AFAIK, for whatever that's worth. So sorry to have offended you and/or caused any confusion.

OSS is right - there's a config setting to enable arp output to MIDI.
One note though - IIRC (if I remember correctly), it only works in Single mode.

Yes, when enabled in the arp system menu the TI will transmit arpeggiator notes from its MIDI out port. However, it is great to have detailed users on this forum as I did not know it would only be in single mode and in one note configurations. This kind of spoils the fun for me as I usually work in Multi-mode on my TI. I can always use my Nordlead2, it also will transmit arpeggiator notes from its MIDI out port as well. It’s been great for arpeggiating my JD800! Fun stuff!

I contacted customer support and they said "yes, of course that's possible" so I will give more updates once I hear back from my second email.

Thanks ///OSS for the details.

boreg - what exactly do you mean by single mode?

No worries cryophonik you did preface with AFAIK.

I actually did try this last night and it worked great. I ran the arp out of my Polar to my P08 and FS1R and had a great time with it. I've played around with the same thing with my Nords in the past, but never even realized that the Virus would do the same.

It will be interesting to see how the new arp features in OS4 is implemented - if it will allow you to also send the controller messages to the MIDI out as well as the note messages, that will be very cool.

The new feature is going to be absurd..youll be able to feed in other synths and go to town with the arpeggiator slicing and dicing the filter or anything else in the matrix options DRROOOLLZZZ thumbsup cant wait for the new os

Let me get this straight now...so you're saying you can feed a synth's audio output into the Virus' audio input and then apply the Virus' arp and matrix settings to that external sound source? god damnnnnnn my Pro1 is going to be a BEASTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

the new OS 4 on the TI will add ARP to Matrix, so you'll be able to modulate any destination in the matrix with the ARP as source.. not just using the arp to trigger the internal oscillators and envelopes. so you can theoretically run your pro one in while the TI is mangling the filters and amp and panning etc etc probably act as an interesting Gating tool as well, its going to be fun. Also they added a Comb Filter a Vowel Filter and 6 or so distortion overdrive models in the effects section!!! WWOOOOOHHaaa man I cant wait

I just ran a MIDI cable out of my Virus into my MIDI interface (you could run it directly into another synth's MIDI in, if you prefer). Then, I just hit "Config" to get into the EDIT CONFIG menu and hit the Parameters button until I got to page "MIDI 2/3", where you'll see "Arp Note Send" - use the Value 1 knob to turn it to On and, voila, you're sending the arp to the MIDI out and into whatever synth you've connected it to (make sure both synths are on the same MIDI channel, of course). Then, just activate the arp and start going nuts.

It's a piece of cake - to be honest, I feel like a numbnuts for not knowing this after owning my TI for years (and several other Viruses prior to that!). But, I've pretty much always used it in TI mode, so..... doh!

In Single mode, Virus plays a single patch on the global MIDI channel.
In Multi mode, Virus plays 16 parts on arbitrary MIDI channels.
