Thread Starter | Laptop for live performance - which software ? I decided to give a chance for using a laptop plus two controller keyboards over my regular hardware setup, which basically includes a Juno 106, A-33 and a rack units consisted of JV2080, DEP5 and a mixer. The main reason is that the specific band use to many specific sounds in their new album, which should rather go from a sampler than from romplers or synths. We will also need to be able to play back a track and to send click to the drummer. Our first thought was Cubase running either Kontakt or Halion, loaded as one session which has locators between the songs. Click is would be a recorded wav file and switching between the songs would be sending location parameters from the A33 (or simply but clicking a number...) Which set up would you suggest ? Thanks ! |

| Lives for gear | This. Letting a softsampler deal with long wave files is asking for trouble. Letting Cubase deal with it is - well, the better solution - but still not good. Using Live, you can break up the song in its pieces; use different loops for the beats, trigger effects in time, and you can morph from one song to the other seamlessly because timestretching works very well (in Cubase you have to sort of announce it earlier). In case someone messes up it's no trouble at all to let something continue again, and when you'd pour everything in a single audio track in a softsampler you might as well just use a plain old MP3 player. Halion? Is that even getting any updates nowadays? |
